DROWNING AT CARLYLE LAKE SWIMMING AREA
Around 5:23PM Tuesday, Clinton County Sheriffs’s Department responded to the report of a drowning man on Carlyle Lake at the Cole’s Creek area. According to Clinton County Coroner, Phillip Moss, 21 year old Jason Turczi of Centalia was swimming with family members when he went under the water. Tuzczi’s body was recovered two hours later, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Corps of Engineer Ranger Unit, Clinton County Police, and Huey Ferin Boulder Fire Department assisted in the recovery.
FIRE IN POCAHONTAS SENDS ONE FIRE FIGHTER TO HOSPITAL
The Pocahontas Fire Department responded to a structure fire around 7:04PM. According to Fire Chief, Kendal Brink, the mobile home was fully engulfed when firemen arrived. No one was living in the home. The structure is a complete loss and firemen were on the scene for over 3 hours. As temperatures soared to over 90 degrees and over 100 for the heat index, one fireman succumbed to the heat. He was transported to Greenville Regional Hospital by Pocahontas EMS where he was treated and released.

KASKASKIA COLLEGE BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETS
The Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees met recently and approved a one-year contract with the Department of Corrections to continue offering educational programs at the Centralia Corrections Center. The board approved the construction bid for the Sports and Activities Facility to Johannes Construction, Inc. of Centralia, in the amount of $424,000. Tessa Opfer of Shobonier was hired as the new Assistant Professor of Nursing and Job Preparedness Coordinator Margaret Winter’s resignation was accepted. Prevailing wages for Clinton County and salary increases for regular KC faculty and staff were approved along with the college’s health insurance plan and the purchase of cosmetology kits.
