DROWNING AT CARLYLE LAKE SWIMMING AREA

 

Around 5:23PM Tuesday, Clinton County Sheriffs’s Department responded to the report of a drowning man on Carlyle Lake at the Cole’s Creek area.  According to Clinton County Coroner, Phillip Moss, 21 year old Jason Turczi of Centalia was swimming with family members when he went under the water.  Tuzczi’s body was recovered two hours later, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.  The Corps of Engineer Ranger Unit, Clinton County Police, and Huey Ferin Boulder Fire Department assisted in the recovery. 


FIRE IN POCAHONTAS SENDS ONE FIRE FIGHTER TO HOSPITAL

 

The Pocahontas Fire Department responded to a structure fire around 7:04PM.  According to Fire Chief, Kendal Brink, the mobile home was fully engulfed when firemen arrived.  No one was living in the home.  The structure is a complete loss and firemen were on the scene for over 3 hours.  As temperatures soared to over 90 degrees and over 100 for the heat index, one fireman succumbed to the heat.  He was transported to Greenville Regional Hospital by Pocahontas EMS where he was treated and released.

KASKASKIA COLLEGE BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETS

 

The Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees met recently and approved a one-year contract with the Department of Corrections to continue offering educational programs at the Centralia Corrections Center.  The board approved the construction bid for the Sports and Activities Facility to Johannes Construction, Inc. of Centralia, in the amount of $424,000.  Tessa Opfer of Shobonier was hired as the new Assistant Professor of Nursing and Job Preparedness Coordinator Margaret Winter’s resignation was accepted.  Prevailing wages for Clinton County and salary increases for regular KC faculty and staff were approved along with the college’s health insurance plan and the purchase of cosmetology kits.

DR. DONNA DAISY TO SHARE STORY ABOUT HER HUSBAND'S ILLNESS

 

Family Practice Specialist and long-time member of the Greenville Regional Hospital medical staff, Dr. Charles Daisy, courageously fought a severe illness before losing the battle last year. His struggle is now the subject of a new book titled “Why Wait? Be happy Now! Finding your Path to Unconditional Happiness.” The book was written by his wife Dr. Donna Daisy. The personal and heartwarming story of Dr. Daisy’s illness and the kindness of family, friends and others during his journey will be told Sunday, June 27 at 2:00 p.m. at the Greenville High School Auditorium. GREENVILLE FFA RECEIVES AWARD

 

More accolades for the Greenville FFA Chapter keep rolling in. The Greenville FFA Chapter received an award, as a section winner of the Student Development Program, at the recent Illinois FFA convention in Springfield. Student development and chapter and community development make up the program's activities. The Illinois Association FFA recognized the chapter with the best Student Development Program in each of the 25 sections in the state and the Greenville chapter won in their section. Accepting the award were FFA members Cheyenne Rogier and Danial Suess.

John Henry Woltering, age 76 of Highland, passed away Tuesday, June 22nd at his home. Funeral services for 76 year old John Woltering will be Wednesday June 30th at 1:30pm at Jefferson Barracks Cemetery in St. Louis. Burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or VFW Post 5694.

Donnie G. Elam, age 66 of Vandalia, passed away Tuesday June 22nd at the family residence. Funeral Services for 66 year old Donnie Elam will be Saturday at 10am at Bethel Baptist Church in Vandalia. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery in Mulberry Grove. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 8pm at Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia. Memorials may be made to Liberty Cemetery in Mulberry Grove or Bethel Baptist Church.

Arlene R. Schneider age 95 of Highland passed away on Monday June 21st at Eden Village Retirement Center in Glen Carbon. Funeral services for 95 year old Arlene Schneider will be Thursday at 11am at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. Burial will be in the Highland City Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 10 to 11am at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Highland Home.

 

CHARLES A. “CHARLIE” HUBERT

 

Charles A. “Charlie” Hubert age 90 of New Baden passed away on Tuesday June 22nd. Funeral services for 90 year old Charles “Charlie” Hubert will be Friday at 10am at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.  Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8pm and Friday from 8 to 9:30am at Hempen Funeral Home.
