GREENVILLE COUPLE KILLED IN COLORADO CRASH

 

 

At 10:31 Monday morning, a fatal crash on I-70 near Burlington, Colorado took the lives of a Greenville couple. Vernon Chute, age 79, and his wife Norma Chute, age 77, both of Greenville, were eastbound on I-70 when, according to the Colorado State Police, the Chevrolet Vernon Chute was driving, struck a slow moving Colorado Department of Transportation truck that was spraying weeds on the left shoulder, and partially in the left lane. 

 

Two young passengers in the Chute vehicle were airlifted to St. Anthony Central Hospital in Denver. The truck driver sustained minor injuries.


WOMAN KILLED IN ACCIDENT SATURDAY IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY

 

A head-on collision in Montgomery County Saturday afternoon killed one person and injured two others. According to a spokesperson with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department, Eileen Gracy-Rieger, age 57, was eastbound in an SUV on Mt. Moriah Avenue around 3:30 p.m. and Patricia Petcher, age 50, of Hillsboro, was westbound in a pick-up truck. The vehicles collided as they crested a hill.

 

Gracey-Reiger was pronounced dead at the scene and Petcher was taken to St. Louis University Hospital by helicopter. At this time, there is no update on her injuries. A 16 year-old passenger in Petcher’s truck suffered minor injuries. Many area EMS, fire departments and law enforcement departments were called to the scene. Currently the accident is still under investigation by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department and the Illinois State Police.

 

 


AGRICHEMICAL CONTAINER RECYCLING PROGRAM

 

Farmers don’t throw away your empty agrichemical containers.  The Illinois Department of Agriculture container recycling program begins in early August and you may take empty containers to various sites in Illinois where they will be ground up and recycled into shipping pallets, fence posts, drainage tubing, and other useful products.  Please rinse the containers and remove all caps, labels, booklets, and foil seals.  Area locations include CPS in New Baden September 1 from 8:00 – 11:00 a.m., Madison Service in Marine September 1 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m., and Woolsey Brothers in Vandalia September 2 from 8:00 – 11:00 a.m.  For a free brochure about the recycling program, call 1-800-641-3934.

MULBERRY GROVE STUDENTS RECEIVE SCHOLARSHIPS

 

Mulberry Grove High School students Samantha Rensing and Cheyenne Johnson will each receive a Board of Trustee Scholarship to attend Kaskaskia College for the 2010-2011 school year. This award provides the students with up to two years full tuition. Samantha is the daughter of Joe and Velvet Rensing of Mulberry Grove and plans to study Veterinary Medicine.  Cheyenne is the daughter of Bob and Sara Johnson of Mulberry Grove.

HENRY ELVIS HALE

 

Henry Elvis Hale, age 85, of rural Mulberry Grove, passed away Saturday, June 26 at Fair Oaks Nursing Home.  Funeral services for 85 year-old Henry Hale will be Thursday, at 11:00 a.m. at Young Funeral Home in Greenville.  Burial will be in Montrose Cemetery with military rites by Greenville VFW Post #1377.  Friends may call Wednesday, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to the family.

 

ELDON LANGEL

 

Eldon B. Langel, age 94, of Greenville, passed away Sunday, June 27 at Greenville Regional Hospital. Funeral services for 94 year-old Eldon Langel will be Friday, at 10:30 a.m. at the Greenville First Christian Church. Interment will be in Brown Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be Thursday, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church or Brown Cemetery.

 

MARVIN WEATHERS

 

Marvin E. Weathers, age 75, of Woburn, passed away Friday, June 25 at his residence. Funeral services for 75 year-old Marvin Weathers will be today, at 11:00 a.m. at Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation was held Monday, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Zion Cemetery or Bond County Hospice.

 

ROBERT “BOBBY” GREEN

 

Robert “Bobby” Green, age 82, of Bowling Green, Missouri, formerly of Sorento, passed away Friday, June 25.  Funeral services for 82 year-old Robert “Bobby” Green will be Wednesday, at 7:00 p.m. at the Perfetti Funeral Home in Sorento.  Graveside services will be Thursday, at 10:00 a.m. at Sunnyside Cemetery in Sorento.  Friends may call Wednesday, from 5:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
