GLIDER ACCIDENT CLAIMS THE LIFE OF LITCHFIELD MAN
Bond County EMS and Sheriff’s deputies responded to a glider down on Doll’s Orchard Road near the intersection with Pokey Road south of Pocahontas just after 8PM Sunday night. The pilot, 62 year old William Knox of Litchfield, was found dead at the scene. According to a press release from the Bond County Sheriff’s department Knox had flown out of the Highland airport earlier in the day. There is no determination as to why the glider crashed and the FAA is also continuing their investigation of the crash site.
FATAL ACCIDENT IN MACOUPIN COUNTY
A Carlinville man was fatally injured in a one-vehicle accident in Macoupin County, at 12:40 a.m. Tuesday. According to Illinois State Police, Jared R. Wofford, age 20, of Carlinville, was killed when his 1993 GMC Sonoma pick-up, eastbound on Barnett Road in rural Macoupin County and approaching the single-lane wooden deck bridge at Sugar Creek, left the roadway, struck the bridge railing, went airborne and overturned. Jared R. Wofford was declared dead at the scene by the Macoupin County Coroner. According to State Police, allegedly alcohol use appears to be a contributing factor in the crash and the report says the victim was not wearing a seat belt. Two passengers in the Sonoma were taken to Carlinville Area Hospital with minor injuries. State Police and the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the accident.
SPECIAL UNIT 2 SCHOOL BOARD MEETING
The Bond County Unit 2 School Board held a special meeting Monday afternoon. The board approved a payment to Tindall Construction, for the new elevator at the high school, in the amount of $45,814.23, to be paid from federal funding for ADA compliance. The elevator will make it possible for people in wheel chairs to have access to all levels at the school. The elevator is projected to be installed and operational by August.
