BUNKER HILL WOMAN DIES IN TRACTOR ACCIDENT

 

A Bunker Hill woman died in a tractor accident Wednesday morning just before 9AM.  Jacquelin Waters, age 56 of Bunker Hill, was  helping her husband Paul Water remove a tree from their property.  Paul was connecting a chain to the tree while Jacquelin was in the driver seat of the tractor.  The tractor overturned and pinned Jacquelin who was pronounced dead at the scene by the Macoupin County Coroner.  The death is still officially under investigation but no inquest or autopsy is planned.

SALES TAX HOLIDAY IN ILLINOIS

 

Illinois’ first ever statewide sales tax holiday to help families pay for back-to-school essentials, such as shoes and school supplies, will occur in August.

 

From August 6^th through August 15^th the 5 percent state portion of sales taxes collected at retail registers will be waived. Local government taxes will continue to be collected. Items included for the sales tax waiver are clothing that cost under $100, shoes, outerwear, uniforms, gloves, hats, mittens and basic school supplies such as writing utensils, paper, crayons, erasers, glue and such. The sales tax holiday will not apply to some items, including computers and computers supplies and peripherals. Also after school items will not be included.

GOVERNOR’S HOME TOWN AWARD

 

Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity Director, Warren Ribley, is encouraging Illinois communities large and small to submit entries for the 29^th annual Governor’s Home Town Awards competition. The deadline to submit an application is August 2^nd. The award is given in six project categories, and a team of impartial volunteer judges evaluate the applications on need for the project, resource use, and impact. Each award winning community will receive a road sign and a plaque recognizing their efforts.

 

 

GREENVILLE REGIONAL HOSPITAL AUXILIARY MEETING

 

The Greenville Regional Hospital Auxiliary will hold their quarterly, general membership meeting Monday, July 19^th at 7pm at the Community Room in the hospital. During the meeting, Mike Irving, Registered Physical Therapist and Director of the Greenville Regional Hospital Outpatient Rehabilitation Department, will present a program on the Bioness Foot-Drop System. A light meal will be served at 6pm and those planning to attend are asked to respond by Monday, July 19^th by noon. For reservations call Stephanie Self at 664-12340 ext. 3002.

HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT NOW FOR LISTENING AREA

 

A heat advisory is now in effect for the entire Metro East and WGEL Listening area.  The advisory will last until Thursday evening at 7PM.  Temperatures today are expected to hit the upper 90s with heat indices up to 105 to 110.  Stay inside as much as possible, drink plenty of water and avoid alcoholic and cafinetted drinks.  Also check on your friends and neighbors who may not have air conditioning.  Bring your pets inside and make sure they have plenty to drink as well.  A full weather forecast is coming up later in this news cast.
