MAN DROWNS IN CARLYLE LAKE

 

According to a press release from 911 East in Clinton County, at 3:10 p.m. Tuesday, July 20 the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call reporting a man had fallen into a silo on Carlyle Lake near the northeast section of the lake.  Emergency personnel from the Army Corp of Engineers, Huey-Boulder-Ferrin Fire Department, Keyesport Fire Department, MedStar Ambulance Service and the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department conducted recovery efforts.  David Spires’ body was located at 4:40 p.m. inside the silo in approximately fifteen feet of water.  According to witnesses, Spires had lost his balance while diving off the silo into the lake.   

BOIL ORDER FOR TRI TOWNSHIP WATER DISTRICT

 

Tri Township Water District has issued a boil order for Monday morning, July 26 due to divers inspecting the water tower. The boil order will be in effect until further notice.

JOIN TOM KENNEDY AT THE MADISON COUNTY FAIR

 

Join Tom Kennedy as he broadcasts live from the Madison County Fair this Sunday from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. at the fairgrounds in Highland.  Tom will have the cash call, secret word, wheel of meat and 25th anniversary registrations, along with some giveaways.  Head out to the Madison County Fair which kicks off this Sunday.

KASKASKIA COLLEGE BOARD MEETING

 

The Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees met recently for their regular monthly meeting. The board hired Hyeon Yoon, of Arlington Heights, as a full-time temporary assistant professor of Spanish. He will serve as instructor to three schools through a dual credit program.  The board also hired George Evans to be the new director of the Centralia Correction Center Program.  A public hearing is set for August 19, at 6:45 p.m. in the Clinton Wedekemper board room, for the college’s tentative 2011 fiscal year budget.

ISP AGENCY AWARDS 

Illinois State Police Acting Director Jonathon Monken announced the Police Officer, Telecommunicator, and Forensic Scientist of the Year award winners during the agency’s annual awards ceremony.  The winners are Trooper Jeremy Walk from Litchfield, Catherine Bencini, and James Ercoli.

SOCCER MEETING SUNDAY

There is a meeting scheduled for Sunday, July 25 from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. for high school boys interested in playing soccer this fall for the Comets.  The meeting is at the Bond County Community Unit 2 Media Center.

JUNIOR COMETS FOOTBALL AT THE ST LOUIS DOME

 

The Greenville Junior Comets football teams will play two special games during halftime of Ram’s games this year at the St. Louis Dome. The seventh grade team will play at halftime of the Rams versus the Ravens game Thursday, September 2 and the eighth grade team will play at halftime Sunday, October 17 when the Rams play the Chargers. Tickets are $35.00 for admission to both games. About 100 tickets remain. For more information or to purchase tickets, contact coaches Jose Lirios, Mike Pasha, Stan Pickett or Bob Snyder. The Junior Comets will have a camp Saturday, July 24 at the Greenville Junior High School field from 8:00 - 11:00 a.m. There will be more information on game tickets at Saturday's camp.
