COUNTY RECIEVES TWO STATE PAYMENTS IN JULY

 

According to the Bond County Board and County Treasurer Katie Weiss, Bond County received two state income tax payments in July.   In total the county received just over $95,000.  These were the Feb. and March state income tax payments to the county.

 

The Bond County Veterans Memorial Committee reported to the county board it will be adding concrete improvements around the memorial bricks on the courthouse lawn.  This will make it easier for specific veteran’s bricks to be found by visitors and family members.  The board announced an opening on the Smithboro Fire Protection Board that will likely be filled at the next meeting later in August.  You may see the entire Bond County Board meeting Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. on Greenville Cable Channel 18.

SHAWNEE ROAD CLOSED FOR OILING

 

The Bond County Highway Department will be oiling Shawnee Road Thursday, August 5 from 7:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. A detour route will not be available during this time. Please take this work into consideration if traveling in the area. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the highway department at 664-1144. 

 

THE HEAT CONTINUES AND SO DOES THE WARNING

 

The heat continues and so does the warning.  The entire WGEL listening area is under an excessive heat warning until 8:00 o'clock tonight.  Readings in downtown Greenville Tuesday reached around 97 degrees and heat index went up to 110.  High temperatures are expected to reach near 100 Wednesday with heat index up to 110-115. Remember to take frequent breaks during any outside activities, drink plenty of water, and check on your neighbors, friends, and families, especially those who do not have air conditioning and make sure outside pets have plenty of water and shade.

LOCAL MAN RECEIVES AWARDS

 

A local man who volunteers to help many organizations will be recognized with two awards. Wes Pourchet, will receive the 4-H Salute to Excellence award at the Illinois State Fair Saturday, August 14 at noon at the Junior Home Economics Building. Wes served on many 4-H committees and has also served on the Farm Bureau Board, FSA County Committee, Soil and Water District, and Bond County Zoning Board. Wes will also receive the Illinoisan of the Day award Friday, August 20 at 11:30 a.m. the Illinois State Fairgrounds Commodity Building. This award is sponsored by the Illinois State Fair Museum Foundation and is based on community involvement and volunteerism. Wes is also well known locally for his excellent cooking.
