FATAL MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT THIS WEEKEND

A New Douglas man lost his life in a motorcycle accident Sunday just after midnight. A Madison County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to the accident scene on Rockwell Road at Luescher Road in Alhambra. Charles E. Rose Jr., age 26, of New Douglas, was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland and pronounced dead just after 1:00 a.m. Rose was the only one on the motorcycle and no other vehicles were involved, according to the sheriff’s department. The accident remains under investigation by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department.

CHARGES AGAISNT 15 YEAR-OLD IN DOUBLE HOMICIDE IN LOOGOOTEE

Charges have been officially made against 15 year-old Clifford Baker of Farina, in the double homicide of 60 year-old John Michael Mahon and 53 year-old Debra J. Tish of Loogootee in Fayette County. The trial will not take place in juvenile court due to the two alleged first degree murder charges. According to court documents, Baker will be in court August 9 with counsel, at 10:30 a.m., at the courthouse in Fayette County.

4-H LIVESTOCK AUCTION MONDAY

The annual 4-H Livestock Auction will be Monday, August 9 beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the Swine and Sheep Show Ring on the Bond County Fairgrounds. Area businesses and individuals have this opportunity to support local 4-H members by purchasing their project animals and products at the auction. Purchased animals may be kept by the buyer, donated to scholarship funds or the Extension Foundation, processed at local meat processing plants, or sold to United Producers or Greenville Livestock. Thank you to everyone supporting Bond County 4-H through the livestock auction.

You may only register once during the 2010 Bond County Fair.

MULBERRY GROVE VILLAGE BOARD APPOINTS NEW VILLAGE CLERK

At the regular Mulberry Grove Village Board meeting Tuesday night, the board unanimously approved the appointment of Karen Tally as the village clerk to replace retired clerk Shirley Kingston. Karen resigned her position on the board to accept the clerk’s appointment.

Following an executive session, the board appointed Janice Elmore to fill the board vacancy created by Karen’s resignation.

The board approved new water rates. For village residents, the new rates are $13.50 for the first thousand gallons and $18.50 for the second thousand gallons. Rates for residents outside the village are $19.58 for the first thousand gallons and $27.98 for the second. The new rates become effective August 15.

The board received a presentation from Linda Tragesser representing the Regional Planning Commission concerning a multi-hazard mitigation plan. Board members will review the plan and decide on adoption at a later meeting. The next meeting is September 6, at 7:00 p.m

BOND COUNTY BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING

The Bond County Board of Health Director’s meeting has been rescheduled from Monday, August 9 to Monday, August 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the Bond County Health Department Building.

DEMO DERBY RESULTS FROM BOND COUNTY FAIR

The 2010 Bond County Fair Demo Derby was Saturday night. David Jackson won the feature with Josh Scott second and Scott Baldwin third. In the compact division, Kerry Kehrer won with Travis Kehrer in second and Matt Notemeyer third.

ART WALK FUNDING APPROVED BY GREENVILLE TOURISM

The Greenville Tourism Committee met Monday for a special meeting. Martha Radcliff spoke on behalf of Our Common Ground. She made a request for the September 17 Art Walk. The board unanimously voted to give the $1200 to the Art Walk for advertising. The motion now goes to the Greenville City Council for final approval.

Melvin “Louie” DeSart, age 79, of Taylorville, formerly of Coffeen, passed away Saturday, August 7 at his residence. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at Toberman-Dean Funeral Home in Coffeen. Burial will be in Olive Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ray Weiss, age 75, of Millersburg, passed away Friday, August 6 at his home. Graveside services will be Monday, at 1:00 p.m. at Highland City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Wisetown Baptist Church. Young Funeral Home in Greenville is in charge of the arrangements.

Margie Brown, age 73, of Greenville, passed away Thursday, August 5 at Greenville Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be Friday, at 10:00 a.m. at Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. Interment will be in Brown Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church or Bond County Hospice.

Dr. Walter H. Johnson, age 93, of Hebron, Indiana, formerly of Greenville, passed away Wednesday, August 4 in Merrilville, Indiana. Funeral services will be Wednesday, at 1:00 p.m. at the Free Methodist Church in Greenville. Interment will be in Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, at 10:00 a.m. at the church. D. Deloris Lynch, age 86, of Greenville, formerly of Mulberry Grove, passed away Friday, August 6 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield. Funeral services will be Tuesday, at 11:00 a.m. at the Mulberry Grove Methodist Church. Interment will be in McInturff Cemetery in rural Vandalia. Visitation will be Monday, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home in Greenville. Memorials are suggested to Shriner’s Hospital or the Mulberry Grove United Methodist Church.

David E. Miles, age 51, of Greenville, passed away Sunday, August 8 at his home. A private family funeral service has been arranged. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to his mother. The Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

M. Frances Stanbery, age 82, of Litchfield, passed away Friday, August 6 at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield. Graveside funeral services are planned and there will be no visitation. The Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield is in charge of arrangements.
