2010 BOND COUNTY FAIR QUEEN PAGEANT

 

Allison Grissom was crowned the 2010 Bond County Fair Queen Monday night. First runner-up was Katie Goodall and second runner-up was Shay Smith.

 

There were six queen contestants this year and they were: Shay Smith, Valerie Elsworth, Katie Goodall, Jaclyn Hamel, Allison Grissom and Miranda Meskil. All of the girls had a busy day which included many interviews with the judges. Monday evening’s event included a group dance number and a speech by each contestant.

 

The twenty little miss contestants also participated in a group dance number led by retiring queen Lauren Brewer.

 

Pageant director Brooke Earnest announced that the participation award given each year will now be called the "Richard Debatin Participation Award” in memory of Richard who just passed away a few weeks ago. The award went to Shay Smith. The “Peoples Choice award” was presented to Valerie Elsworth. Shay Smith was named Miss Congeniality and Allison Grissom Miss Photogenic.

TURRETT CAFE TO CELEBRATE GRAND OPENING TODAY  

The official grand opening of the Turrett Café is today.  The Turrett Café is next to WGEL studios in downtown Greenville.  Tom Kennedy will be broadcasting live from the Turrett Café from 8:00 - 9:00 a.m. and the ribbon cutting is at 9:00 . The celebration will go on all day.


GREENVILLE CITY COUNCIL TO MEET

 

Due to the Bond County Fair Parade Tuesday evening, the Greenville City Council is scheduled to meet Thursday, August 12 at 7:30 p.m.  The preliminary agenda includes sales contracts and ordinances concerning the sale of surplus real estate, a zoning board of appeals recommendation, a grant from the Illinois Housing Development, consideration of an amendment to the liquor control ordinance, appointments to boards and commissions, and an executive session.

BOND COUNTY REAL ESTATE TAX SALE

 

Bond County real estate properties that were delinquent for real estate taxes will be offered for sale to the public.  Approximately 32 items will be available through a sealed bid auction.  All items will be sold to the highest sealed bid received on or before August 23.  Complete bidder’s packets and sale catalogs are now available at the Bond County Treasurer’s office.  For more information, call 1-800-248-2850.

RESULTS FROM 4-H DAIRY SHOW AT THE BOND COUNTY FAIR

 

Here are the results from the Bond County Fair 4-H Dairy Show. Brennan Woker won Champion Holstein Heifer, Tyler Carter - Champion Holstein Cow, Brett Woker - Champion Jersey Female, Josua Laesch - Champion Guernsey, James Johnson - Champion Milking Shorthorn Female, Hannah Albert - Novice Showmanship, Peyton Randolph - Junior Showmanship and Lauren Robison - Senior Showmanship.


OBITUARIES

ARLEN LEBEGUE

 

Arlen D. Lebegue, age 56, of Johnson City, Illinois, formerly of Greenville, passed away Monday, August 9 near Princetown, Indiana. Funeral services will be Sunday, at 2:00 p.m. at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. Interment will be in Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to a trust fund set up for his son Heath Lebegue.
