LOW INCOME HOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

B.C.M.W. will start making appointments for both connected and disconnected households for the 2011 “Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program,” Wednesday, September 1. Only households with someone 60 years old and over or someone currently receiving some form of government disability will be eligible to make appointments at this time. Appointments may be made by phone or in person. Eligibility is determined by providing 30 days of proof of income and having a utility bill in the head of the household’s name. GREENVILLE PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR ACCEPTED INTO LEADERSHIP PROGRAM

Greenville Public Works Director Bill Grider has been accepted into the American Public Works Association Emerging Leaders Academy, a year-long national program providing intensive leadership and management training.  The program includes reading assignments and class projects, mentoring sessions, a two-day retreat, and the International Public Works Congress & Exposition.  Candidates must be professionals who have been working in the field of public works for seven years or less and have demonstrated an interest in advancing their careers within the profession.  Grider will be a member of the fourth APWA Leadership Academy class, which accepts only sixteen applicants per year. 

FALLEN AIRMAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP WALK/RUN

The first annual Bradley R. Smith Memorial Scholarship 5K Walk/Run will be Saturday, September 11 in Troy. Brad Smith was killed in action in January while serving his country overseas. The Smith family organized the event to honor the memory and courage of Brad, on what would have been his 25^th birthday. Registration is at 7:00 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with the Walk/Run starting at 8:00 a.m. The course runs through Tri-Township Park passing a memorial bench that was placed in Brad’s honor and then down Bradley R. Smith Blvd., finishing at Bethel Baptist Church. The cost is $20.00 with the proceeds going to scholarships for Triad High School, the VFW in Troy, and Bethel Baptist Church. CONSTRUCTION AT GREENVILLE AIRPORT

You may have noticed preparation for construction going on at the Greenville Airport. According to Rex Catron, the construction is for the ramps and base for new T-Hangars that will be constructed next spring.
