PAWS IN THE PARK

 

It is time for the 7th annual Paws in the Park this Saturday, September 11 at Patriots Park. Rachel Hunsdorfer from the Bond County Humane Society highlighted some of the activities. The "wag-and-walk" is from 8:00 - 10:00 a.m. and whoever collects the most pledges will win a digital camera. Contest registration starts at 9:00 a.m. and the contests start at 11:00. There will be a cutest pet photo contest this year. The blessing of the animals will be at 9:00 a.m. and there will also be an agility test, pet photos, and personalized paw prints. A team from Missouri will do a fly-ball demonstration and the St. Louis Metro Police Canine Unit will arrive by helicopter at 10:30. At Paws in the Park, owners will be able to have their pets micro-chipped and view the pets that are available for adoption from the Bond County Humane Society. Paws in the Park will be this Saturday at Patriots Park, starting at 8:00 a.m., rain or shine.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR KC READING LINK PROGRAM

 

You may give a gift from the heart by volunteering as a Reading Link Tutor to assist adult learners who are sixteen years of age or older, in reading, writing, basic math, and basic English skills.  The Kaskaskia College Reading Link has scheduled formal training sessions for volunteer tutors.  Anyone may volunteer to be a part of this challenging and rewarding experience.  For more information about the program, how to become a tutor or the training sessions schedule, call 618-545-3119.

JAN NEVINGER LABOR DAY TOURNEY FINAL RESULTS

 

 

Former Greenville Comet golfer Steve Bollinger won the Championship Flight in the Jan Nevinger Labor Day Golf Tournament with an even par 216 for the three-day 54 hole event. Former champion Michael Chaney and O’Fallon resident Phil Schildknecht finished in a tie for second and third place. In the Senior Division for players over 60, Greenville golf coach Denny Lloyd finished first with a three day total of 11 over par 227. Mike Kelly from Vandalia and Boone Chaney tied for second and third. In the Senior A Flight, Ed Nowlin of Greenville took first place with Neil Heien second and Glenn Mueller third. A Flight for the younger players, went to Scott Vancy with Greenville’s Mike Eaton second and Wally Lauchner third and the B Flight winner was Rick Blockyou with Charlie Elliott second and Todd Ambuehl third.

OBITUARIES

MARGARET BELLM

 

Margaret J. Bellm, age 89, of Highland, passed away Monday, September 6 at Faith Care Center in Highland. Funeral services will be Friday, at 11:00 a.m. at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. Burial will be in Highland City Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. and Friday, from 8:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to HACF-Margaret Bellm Dance Scholarship, or Passage Hospice.

 

HERBERT F. “HERBIE” BRAUNDMEIER

 

Herbert F. “Herbie” Braundmeier, age 50, of Staunton, passed away Sunday, September 5 in a cornfield near Alhambra as the result of a farm accident.  A memorial service for 50 year-old Herbert Braundmeier will be Friday, at 11:00 a.m. at the Salem United Church of Christ in Alhambra.  Friends may call Friday, from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church.  Memorials are suggested to the family.  Dauderman Mortuary in Alhambra is in charge of arrangements.
