NOMINATION PETITIONS ARE AVAILABLE FOR GREENVILLE CITY COUNCIL POSITIONS

 

According to the City of Greenville office, nomination petitions are available for the April 2011 election.  Two Greenville City Council positions are available to be filled by the election next April.  Petitions may be picked up at the Municipal Building at 404 South Third Street between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.  The filing period for petitions is November 15 - 22, 2010 at the City Clerk’s office.  For more information call city hall at 664-1644.


 

KC STAFF HONORED, COLLEGE RECEIVES AG GRANT

 

At the recent Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees meeting, the board learned that Associate Professor of Welding Technology Kevin Ray was honored with the designation of “Educator of the Year” by the American Welding Society.  Professor Ray has been nominated for national “Educator of the Year” by the same organization.

Kaskaskia College was recently awarded a $25,000.00 Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources “Pathways to Results” grant.  The focus of the grant is to increase awareness of career opportunities in agriculture, increase awareness of certificate/degree opportunities at KC, increase the number of students enrolled in the agriculture program, and decrease the need for remedial courses prior to enrolling in college.

Kaskaskia students participated in the SkillsUSA competition in June.  Several students won national awards.

Carla Loepker of Carlyle was hired as Job Preparedness Coordinator at the Centralia Correctional Center and the 2011 Board of Trustees meeting calendar was approved.


SPOKESMAN FROM ILLINIOS DEPARMENT OF INSURANCE IN GREENVILLE

 

Illinois Department of Insurance spokesman Calvin Green will be at the Bond County Senior Center Wednesday, October 6 at 7:00 p.m. Green will speak about the Illinois Pre-existing Condition Plan available for those who have a pre-existing illness and have problems getting insurance. Other topics include, employer group health plans, continuation rights, and other various medical service and consumer programs in the state that provide care normally covered by insurance.




ILLINOIS UNEMPLOYMENT RATE DROPS AGAIN IN AUGUST, NATIONAL RATE INCREASES

 

According to the Illinois Department of Employment Security, the unemployment rate fell two tenths of a point to 10.1 percent in August.  This is the eighth consecutive month to show steady or declining unemployment rates.  Nine hundred manufacturing jobs were added in August, the sixth consecutive monthly increase in this sector.  In August, the national unemployment rate went up one tenth of a point to 9.6 percent.  As in Illinois, the expiration of temporary Census 2010 positions outpaced jobs added in the private sector.  So far this year, the Illinois economy has grown seven tenths of one percent and the national economy has grown six tenths of one percent.



RAIN TOTALS FOR GREENVILLE

 

The area received some rain over the weekend and here at the rain totals for Greenville as measured at 6:00 a.m. Sunday and Monday.  Totals for Sunday showed eleven hundredths at the Sewer Plant, fifteen hundredths on Sixth Street, and fourteen hundredths at Idler Lane and Rt. 140.  Recordings Monday morning showed 44 hundredths at the Sewer Plant and also at Idler Lane and Rt. 140 and 47 hundredths at the station on Sixth Street.

BLUEJAYS BASEBALL TEAM HEADING TO SECTIONAL

 

The Greenville Junior High School boys baseball team is heading to the Sectional.  That’s after knocking off Edwardsville Liberty 5-3 in the Regional Championship game Monday.  The Bluejays also beat Piasa in the Regional.  The Bluejays hosted the Regional and will also host the Sectional game this Saturday against Pleasant Plains at 11AM.  Congratulations to the Bluejays and good luck on Saturday.

FERN A WOBBE

 

Fern A. Wobbe, age 81, of Carlyle, passed away Saturday, September 18. A Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Carlyle. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, from 8:00 - 10:30 a.m. at Zieren Day Funeral Home in Carlyle. Memorials are suggested to VNA Tip Hospice or St. Joseph’s Hospital.

GLORIA J. ROESSELET 

Gloria J. Roesselet, age 64, of Breese, passed away Sunday, September 19. Funeral services will be Wednesday, at 10:30 a.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Breese. Burial will be in St. Dominic/St. Augustine Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to VNA Tip Hospice. Highland VFW Auxiliary will hold services Tuesday night at the funeral home.
