GREENVILLE PLAN COMMISSION SCHEDULES PUBLIC HEARING

 

The Greenville Plan Commission has scheduled a public hearing for Monday, October 25 at 7:00 p.m. at the Municipal Building.  The hearing is to consider a request to rezone lots 8-9 of McCaslands Addition on First Street from R-1 to M-1.  The commission will also consider a request to rezone a parcel of land at the south end of First & Prairie and north of the railroad from B-2 to M-1.  If you desire additional information on these requests, contact the office of the city manager at 664-1644.


GREENVILLE CITY COUNCIL SCHEDULED TO MEET

 

The Greenville City Council is scheduled to meet Tuesday, October 12 at 7:30 p.m.  Items on the agenda include administrative reports, recommendations from the zoning board of appeals and plan commission, youth tobacco sales enforcement ordinance, lining manholes, updates on the Andrews Drive overpass, a jake brake ordinance, cemetery board residency ordinance, and an executive session.

TRICK OR TREAT RESTRICTIONS AND SAFETY TIPS

 

Halloween Trick or Treat, within the Greenville city limits, will be limited to one night only, Saturday, October 30 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m., for children twelve years old and under.   Children should carry a flashlight, only go to residences that have their porch lights on, and an adult should accompany small children.  Costumes should contain reflective material, no props with points or sharp edges, and masks that restrict vision should not be worn.   Cross streets only at intersections after looking both ways.  Children should not eat treats until they are inspected by a parent or an adult and notify the police immediately if any suspicious treats are found. KC TO OFFER FOOD SERVICE/SANITATION MANAGER TRAINING COURSE

 

Kaskaskia College is offering a “Food Service/Sanitation Manager” training course, at the main campus in Centralia, Wednesdays beginning November 3 and ending December 15 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.  For more information or to register, call 545-3040.



SHOAL CREEK FIREFIGHTERS CALLED TO LAWN MOWER FIRE

 

Shoal Creek Firefighters responded Sunday, at 1:45 p.m., to a call of a lawn mower on fire in a barn at a residence on Singer Trail in Montgomery County.  According to the fire report, Greenville Firefighters were called for mutual aid with a tanker and manpower.  The call for mutual aid was canceled enroute.

THERESA WILSON KASKASKIA COLLEGE DISTINGUISHED SPEAKER

 

Theresa Wilson, founder and executive director of “The Blessing Basket Project” will be speaking Thursday, October 28 at 7:00 p.m. in the KC Lifelong Learning Center.  Wilson is the Kaskaskia College Foundation Teachers and Coaches Entrepreneurship Program 2009 Distinguished Lecturer.  “The Blessing Blanket Project” helps artisans sell their products, providing a sustainable solution to poverty reduction in developing countries. LARRY SCHMITT

 

Larry L. Schmitt, age 45 of Aviston, passed away Friday October 8th near Carlyle. Funeral services for 45 year old Larry Schmitt will be Tuesday at 11am at the Moss Funeral Home in Trenton. Burial will be in College Hill Cemetery in Lebanon. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 8pm and Tuesday from 9am till time of service at Moss Funeral Home in Trenton. Memorials may be made to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.

 

GLENN TRAUB

 

Glenn E. Traub, age 82 of Pocahontas, passed away Thursday, October 7th at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese. Funeral Services for 82 year old Glenn Traub will be Monday at 11am at Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will be in Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese.
