GREENVILLE REGIONAL HOSPITAL KICKS OFF 50 YEAR ANNIVERSARY

 

It was the kickoff party to celebrate 50 years of service to the community. It was October of 1960 when Utlaut Memorial Hospital, now Greenville Regional Hospital, first opened its doors. Sunday afternoon in a ceremony on the hospital grounds there was cake, singing, and speeches to kick off a year long celebration of the big anniversary.  Stay tuned to WGEL Radio and the WGEL Daily through out the year for upcoming events.

VOLLEY FOR CURE RAISES OVER $5,000

 

Volley for a Cure fundraiser took place recently and the event was a great success. The Greenville Lady Comets Volleyball teams had three match’s on September 30th to help raise money for Bond County Relay for Life. According to Greenville Volleyball Coach, Allison Hall, over $5,300 was raised in the event.  A huge thank you to Coach Hall, the players and everyone who helped with the event.


ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS SCHEDULED TO MEET

 

The Greenville Zoning Board of Appeals is scheduled to meet Tuesday, October 19 at 7:00 p.m. at the Municipal Building.

CHARLES SCHNIEDER AND THE BOND COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEETING FRIDAY

 

The Greenville Historical Society held their annual meeting Friday night in conjunction with the DeMoulin Museum’s presentation of “An Evening with Charles Schneider”.  Schneider performed slight of hand, and entertained those in attendance at Cunetto’s Restaurant, with stories of how he came to write the introduction to the recently published edition of an early 20th century Demoulin’s Brothers Catalog. During the formal meeting Historical Society officers for the 2010-11 year were elected including President, Sharon Grimes, and Vice-President, Kathy Brewer.


GREENVILLE COMETS SOCCER TEAM ADVANCES TO REGIONAL FINAL

 

The Greenville Comets Soccer team defeated Metro-East Lutheran 2-1 Friday night to advance to the Alton-Marquette Regional on Monday. The Comets were able to score two second half goals from Michael Schlemper to secure the win. Peter Huston was the winning goalie and he now has the all time saves record with 224. The Regional final will be tonight at 7pm against Marquette.

 

The Greenville Comets Football team routed Wood River 47-6 Friday night and now are 7-1 for the season and tied for first place in the South Central Conference.

LINDA GARWOOD

 

Linda Garwood, age 64 of Hillsboro, passed away Friday, October 15th at her son’s residence. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11am at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Burial will be in Witt Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to service time.

 

MARGARET J. ZOBRIST

 

Margaret J. Zobrist, age 84 of Greenville, formerly of Hemet California, passed away Thursday October 14th at Fair Oaks. Funeral services will be today at 10am at Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will be in Mt. Gilead Cemetery. Visitations was held Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Ronald McDonald’s House.

 

ROBERT SIVERLY, SR

 

Robert E. Siverly Sr. age 72 of Glen Carbon, passed away Saturday, October 16th at Anderson Hospital in Maryville. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11am at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. Burial will be in Highland City Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 5 To 8pm and Tuesday from 8 to 11am at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
