BOOSTER SEATS CREDITED WITH LOWER NUMBER OF CHILD DEATHS

According to the Illinois State Police, more children are being put into booster seats when riding in cars.  This has resulted in a dramatic reduction in the number of child deaths in vehicle crashes.  In 2008, 697 children died in crashes as compared to 1384 deaths in 1975.  However, according to a recent study, only a little more than half of all children are properly secured in booster seats.  Here are some tips to follow when securing a child in a booster seat.  Seatbelts go under the arm rests on the side.  The seat belt should cross over the collar bone, not the neck or shoulder joint.  The lap belt should go across the hips or pelvis not across the stomach and should be snug against the body.  Remember to properly secure all children, even if only for a short trip.
