BE PREPARED FOR WINTER STORMS
We have enjoyed some beautiful fall weather but the snow, ice, and frigid temperatures of an Illinois winter are just around the corner. The Illinois Emergency Management Agency wants you to be prepared to stay safe at home, in your car, at work, or school. The IEMA, the National Weather Service and the American Red Cross have developed a Winter Storm Preparedness Guide with information about winter weather terms and tips to help you stay safe. They recommend your home have a disaster preparedness kit to provide supplies for at least three days. The kit should include a battery-powered NOAA weather radio, flashlight, extra batteries, non-perishable food, water, a first-aid kit, extra medications and special items needed for babies, and disabled or elderly family members. You should also keep a similar kit in your car. For more information, check the website www.Ready.Illinois.gov.
