DEMOULIN MUSEUM HOSTS WAR EXHIBIT

The DeMoulin Museum is observing Veteran’s Day with a special display.  The exhibit, entitled “DeMoulins at War,” features original military uniforms and artifacts that tell the story of the factory’s contribution to the war effort.  DeMoulin employees who served in World War II will be emphasized.  The display will also include original World War I bond drive posters, on loan from the Bond County Historical Society.  The display will be open beginning Thursday, November 11 through November 28.  Hours on Veteran’s Day are from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. with coffee and cookies for visitors.  Regular museum hours are Friday, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., Saturday, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., and Sunday, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.

EARLY DISMISSAL FOR UNIT 2 SCHOOLS

The Bond County Unit 2 School District will have early student dismissal Thursday, November 18 for teacher inservice. The Greenville Elementary, Pocahontas Center, and Sorento Center will dismiss at 12:30 p.m. junior high at 12:35 and the high school at 12:37. There will be no student attendance Friday, November 19. All unit 2 schools will reconvene Monday, November 2.



MARINE CORPS CELEBRATES 235 YEARS

During the American Revolution, a committee of the Continental Congress drafted a resolution calling for two battalions of Marines that would be able to fight at sea as well as on shore.  The resolution was approved November 10, 1775.  The first formal Marine Corps Birthday Ball was in 1925 in Philadelphia and through the years, the birthday ball has grown into the biggest celebration in the Corps.  Remember November 10 is the 235th birthday of the United States Marine Corps and a day to honor Corps and Country.



KASKASKIA COLLEGE HOSTS VETERANS HEALTH AND DENTAL FAIR

The Kaskaskia College Dental Assisting and Nursing Programs are hosting a Veterans Health and Dental Fair Wednesday, November 17 from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the Lifelong Learning Center.  Those attending may receive free dental x-rays and check-up, free teeth cleaning in spring 2011, medication screening, and vital sign review and recordings.  There will be several booths with information and free products.  For more information, call 545-3320.


OBITUARIES

ERIC ALLEN HAAS

Eric Haas 29 of Pocahontas passed away Friday November 5th at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.  Funeral services for 29 year old Eric Haas will be Wednesday at 11AM at Meridith Funeral Home in Pocahontas.  Interment will be at Robinson cemetery in Pocahontas.  Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8PM and Wednesday from 8-11AM at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the family.
