VETERAN'S DAY CEREMONY ON GREENVILLE SQUARE

The Bond County Veteran’s Memorial Committee and Veteran’s Organizations invite everyone to the Veteran’s Memorial on the square in downtown Greenville today, at 11:00 a.m. for the Veteran's Day Ceremony. The keynote speaker is veteran Dr. Richard Stephens. The Greenville High School Chorus will perform, there will be a poem reading and the ceremony will conclude with a benediction.

Mulberry Grove American Legion will fly flags around the Mulberry Grove Cemetery today in recognition of Veteran's Day.

The Greenville VFW annual Veteran’s Day Barbeque is today, from 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the VFW Hall.  


SHOAL CREEK FIRFIGHTERS CALLED TO BRUSH FIRE

Shoal Creek Firefighters were called to a brush fire Tuesday morning at 10:43 near Palm Avenue in Sorento.  They extinguished the fire which had spread from trash cans to a wooded area.  Firefighters were on the scene for about 40 minutes.

BOND COUNTY TRANSIT CLOSED VETERAN’S DAY

Bond County Transit is closed Thursday, November 11 in observance of Veteran’s Day.


TRIBUTE TO HONOR TUSKEGEE AIRMAN

The Kaskaskia College Veterans Tribute Committee is hosting a special tribute event Sunday, November 21 starting at 6:00 p.m. to honor former principle William H. Walker, a Tuskegee Airman during WW II. He will be greeted by former students and friends as part of a fund raising activity to help develop the Veterans Tribute site. The evening will feature presentations by area ministers, community leaders, veterans, and former students of Mr. Walker. The tribute is planned to provide an area of quiet reflection, allowing visitors the opportunity to review the names and contributions from those who have served our country. LARRY L. “LEO” ELMORE

Larry L. “Leo” Elmore, age 73, of Mulberry Grove, passed away Tuesday, November 9. Funeral services will be Thursday, at 7:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will be in Mulberry Grove Cemetery with military honors by Mulberry Grove American Legion Post 1180. Friends may call Thursday, after 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the family.

ELVA M. ZOBRIST

Elva M. Zobrist, age 96, of Highland, passed away Tuesday, November 9 at Highland Healthcare Center. Funeral services will be Friday, at 10:00 a.m. at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. Burial will be in Highland City Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Friday, from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Highland Animal Shelter.
