“COME HOME FOR CHRISTMAS” IN DOWNTOWN GREENVILLE

You are invited to celebrate a “Come Home for Christmas” event Friday, November 26 starting at 5:30 p.m. in downtown Greenville.  The festivities begin with caroling around the square, Santa and Mrs. Claus arriving on the trolley to light the big tree on the courthouse lawn, and children’s visits with Santa at the Globe Theater.  Enjoy trolley rides to various participating locations, holiday treats and refreshments, and a free movie at 9:00 p.m.  Come and enjoy the sights and sounds of the Christmas season this Friday, November 26 in downtown Greenville.


“TASTE OF KASKASKIA COLLEGE” COOKBOOK EVENTS IN DECEMBER

The Kaskaskia College Alumni and Friends “Taste of Kaskaskia College” Cookbook events will be prior to two Christmas concerts in December.  The Missouri-based Cat’s Pajamas vocal band Christmas concert will be December 5 at 3:00 p.m. in the Jane Knight Auditorium.  You may enjoy the “Taste of Kaskaskia College” Cookbook event from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. featuring items prepared from the Alumni Association’s new cookbook, which will also be on sale.  The cost to sample is $5.00.  The annual Holiday Instrumental Concert is Tuesday, December 7 at 7:30 p.m. with the “Taste of Kaskaskia” event from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.  You are invited to attend these events and greet Ashley Murray, National American Miss Illinois 2010 and current Kaskaskia College student.  For more information, call 545-3069.

PRIVATE PESTICIDE SAFETY EDUCATION PROGRAM CLINICS OFFERED

Farmers are required to be certified as private pesticide applicators to purchase and use restricted use pesticides.  To receive a three-year certification, you must pass an examination administered by the Illinois Department of Agriculture.  Pesticide safety education clinics have been scheduled at various locations in Illinois for training and examination.  Training clinics will be offered from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. with testing from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.  There is a $30.00 charge for the clinic and another $30.00 licensing fee charged by the Illinois Department of Agriculture.  Area clinics are scheduled in Springfield, Collinsville, Mt. Vernon, Effingham, and Champaign and pre-registration is required.  For more information or to register, call 217-333-9418.

KASKASKIA COLLEGE HOLIDAY INSTRUMENTAL CONCERT SCHEDULED

The Kaskaskia College Music Department presents its Annual Holiday Instrumental Concert Tuesday, December 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Jane Knight Auditorium featuring the concert and jazz bands.  There will be a reception following the performance.  The concert is free and everyone is invited.


FILING IS CLOSED FOR APRIL CITY COUNCIL ELECTION

In the April 2011 election, two seats on the Greenville City Council will filled.  Filing to run for those seats closed Monday at 5:00 p.m.  Four people filed to be on the ballot, incumbents Matt Roadman and Kenny Hampton and challengers Donald Stover and John Gillard.  There are no districts in the City of Greenville, so when you go to the polls, you will be asked to vote for two of the four candidates on the ballot.  With only four candidates filing, there will be no primary election. All four names will appear on the ballot April 5, 2011.

RHONDA LACY

Rhonda J. Lacy, age 58, of Centralia, formerly of Beckemeyer, passed away Monday, November 22 at St. Mary Hospital in Centralia. Funeral services will be Saturday, at 11:00 a.m. at the Moss Funeral Home in Breese. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery in Beckemeyer. Friends may call Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice.
