FATAL ACCIDENT ON I-70 AT SILVER LAKE REST AREA

Illinois State Police Officers responded to the scene of a fatal accident Sunday, at 9:53 p.m. on Interstate 70 at the 27.5 mile marker in Madison County.  According to the accident report, Christina N. Watson, age 18, of Hillsboro, was westbound in a 1998 Pontiac Grand Am in the left lane of I-70.  She allegedly made a sudden lane change from the left to the right lane and struck rear driver’s side of a 2007 Chevrolet Impala driven by Nicholas A. Lindenmeyer, age 18, of Arcola, Illinois.  Lindenmeyer lost control of his car which slid into a drainage ditch north of the highway.  Watson also lost control due to the collision and her car began sliding towards the north side of I-70.  During the slide, the car overturned and struck the left rear corner of a 2005 Peterbuilt semi-trailer, driven by Ronald M. Yoder, age 38, of Moahnton, PA, parked on the right shoulder of the westbound I-70 ramp to the Silver Lake Rest Area.  St. Clair County Coroner Rick Stone pronounced Watson dead at the scene.  No other injuries were reported.

GETAWAY DRIVER OF BANK ROBBERY IN LEBANON PLEADS GUILTY

Zachary E. Richey, age 24, of Lawrenceville, Illinois, pled guilty to one count of aggravated bank robbery and one count of using a firearm in relation to a crime of violence. The incident occurred December 19, 2009, when two men allegedly entered the Regions Bank in Lebanon wearing masks and gloves and carrying firearms. Richey allegedly waited outside the bank as a lookout and getaway driver. Richey and another suspect tried to escape with shots being fired. All three suspects were apprehended. Richey is facing up to 35 years imprisonment, a fine of up to $250,000, and up to five years supervised release. Sentencing is scheduled for March 4, 2011.


 

HORSFALL PRINT FEATURED AT HOLIDAY BAZAAR

For the eighth consecutive year, an original print by local artist Robert Horsfall will be available at the annual Greenville Regional Hospital Auxiliary Holiday Bazaar.  The painting this year features the Mt. Gilead Church, located west of Greenville just north of Rt. 140.  The original print will be offered at the annual auction, complete with matting and framing.  In addition, three hand-signed, framed, and numbered prints of the painting will also be offered for auction.  8 ½” x 11” prints, greeting cards, and postcards may be purchased.  The 53rd annual Holiday Bazaar is Saturday, December 4 from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Greenville Free Methodist Church.

ROY SCHNEIDER

Roy J. Schneider, age 76, of Highland, passed away Monday, November 29 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland. A memorial Mass will be Friday, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Highland. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
