ACCIDENT WITH INJURIES ON I-70

A Bond County Deputy, Illinois State Police Officer, Pocahontas-Old Ripley Firefighters and EMS, and Bond County EMS responded to the scene of a single-car accident Wednesday, at 3:28 p.m., in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 at the 39 mile marker.  According to the Illinois State Police accident report, Nicole A. Sharp, age 23, of Tinley Park, Illinois, driving a 2000 Chevy Cavalier, ran off the right side of the road and struck a culvert.  Bond County EMS transported Nicole Sharp to Greenville Regional Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

POPULAR BOOTHS RETURN TO HOLIDAY BAZAAR

Several popular booths will return to the annual Greenville Regional Hospital Auxiliary Holiday Bazaar, Saturday, December 4 at the Free Methodist Church.  The “Country Store” will have the famous apple butter along with frozen mincemeat and other food items.  The “Country Kitchen” will serve coffee and homemade pastries starting at 7:30 a.m. and lunch at 11:00.  A “Just For Men” booth will have sporting goods, the “Book Nook” has books for all ages, the “Cookie Walk” and “Candy Shoppe” features homemade cookies and candy by the pound, and you may buy fresh, live wreaths at “Greenery Galore.”

ILLINOIS HUNTERS TAKE MORE THAN 68,000 DEER

We are into the second part of the firearm deer season and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources has released preliminary information showing 68,037 deer where taken in the first part of the season.  The numbers are down a little from last year in Bond County.  This year 535 deer were taken compared to last year’s 566.  Totals statewide are up by about 2,000.  1,264 deer were harvested in Fayette county, 588 in Clinton County, and 651 in Madison County.  The seven-day season resumed yesterday and ends Sunday, December 5.  


POCAHONTAS CENTER USES ACCELERATED READER PROGRAM TO PROMOTE LEARNING AND READING

Students at the Pocahontas Center continue in the Accelerated Reader Program.  The program promotes learning and reading as students read books and take tests to attain higher point clubs.  Ashley Moore is now in the 400 point club, Alyssa Moore the 300 point club, and Kayla DeSherlia the 200 point club.  Members of the 150 point club include Allyson Leitschuh, Brad Nelson, Crystal Lovsey, Taylor Zobrist, A.J. Eades, and Kurt Weiss.  Many other students are actively involved in the Accelerated Reader Program at the Pocahontas Center.  Drawing winners for November are Drew Knebel and Daniel Lattina.
