ICY WEATHER CAUSES ABOUT A DOZEN CRASHES AND CARS SLIDING OFF THE ROADS

The icy weather last night caused over a dozen accidents and vehicles sliding off of roadways.   While most of the accidents did not involve any reported injury, one on Millersburg Road and Airport Avenue did.  With deputies and police responding to so many accidents no other information is available at this time.  Accidents were reported through out the county with 7 happening inside Greenville city limits.  Roads will still be slick in many spots this morning and remember to watch out for sidewalks and take extra care traveling anywhere today.

TIPS FOR THE ELDERLY TO STAY SAFE AND WARM THIS WINTER

The Department of Aging urges Senior citizens to take steps to stay safe and warm this winter because older residents are at a higher risk of becoming ill during these cold days. Some suggestions are: Thermostats should be set above 65 degrees, get annual flu shots, check your furnaces every year, dress in layers, keep active, eat well and drink plenty of non-alcoholic fluids, stock up on non-perishable food supplies, keep extra medications in the house, have your house and vehicle winterized, if you use a space heater, make sure you have a working fire extinguisher, do not shovel snow or walk in deep snow which may bring on a heart attack. For more information, contact the Department of Aging Help Line at 1-800-252-8966.
