RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY IN POCAHONTAS

Bond County Deputies are investigating a residential burglary in Pocahontas on Osage Lane.  According to police records the burglary happened sometime on Monday the 27th.  A large amount of items were taken from the residence, including a wedding dress, jewelry, electronics, collectibles, silverware and several hundred dollars in cash.  The investigation into the burglary continues. 

The Bond County I-70 patrol issued 26 speeding tickets on Tuesday. 


CHRISTMAS DAY ACCIDENT WITH INJURY

The Bond County Sheriff’s Department responded to an accident on Christmas Day that resulted in an injury. According to the accident report, around 4:45pm, Victor Kaltenbach, age 76 of Greenville was driving a 2001 Olds Aurora eastbound on Route 140 just west of Shawnee Road when he fell asleep, then awoke, drove off the north side of the road over a private drive, sideswiped a tree, continued eastbound into small bushes, striking a small tree, then struck a larger tree, and according to a witness, flipped around into the air with the vehicle landing facing northwest. During the incident, the rear axle broke on the Olds with a tire going airborne. According to the report a the tire struck a Lincoln Town car on the passenger side that was westbound on Route 140. Kaltenbach was taken to Greenville Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries.

SORENTO SCHOOL COLLECTS OVER 1,000 ITEMS FOR FOOD PANTRY

The Sorento school held their annual canned food driver in December, and it was a huge success.  Classes in grades K-8th participated in the drive.  They collected 1,231 items this year for the Sorento Food Pantry.  The 2nd grade class collected the most with 461 items collected. Principal Carpenter will reward the 2nd grade class with a well deserved party for their efforts in helping the community.

ROBERT “BOB” WEIDNER

Robert “Bob” Weidner, age 75 of Greenville, formerly of Granite City, passed away Tuesday, December 28th at his home. Funeral services for 75 year old Robert “Bob” Weidner will be Saturday at 10am at the First Presbyterian Church in Greenville. Masonic Services will be conducted by Greenville Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the First Presbyterian Church or Bond County Hospice. Arrangements are being handled by Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home.

MARGIE A. ROHLING

Margie A. Rohling age 89 of Trenton passed away Tuesday December 28th at Aviston Countryside Manor. A funeral mass of Christian burial will be Friday at 10am at St. Mary’s in Trenton. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Visitations will be Thursday from 4 to 8pm and Friday from 8 to 9:45am at Moss Funeral Home in Trenton. A prayer service will be Thursday at 7:30pm at the funeral home. Memorials may be mad to the Highland Area Community Foundation-Geralyn Rehkemper Fund.

ALBERTA M. WEBER

Alberta M. Weber age 92 of Marine passed away Sunday December 26th at Highland Health Care Center. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10am at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Marine. Burial will be in Marine Cemetery. Visitations will be Wednesday from 4 to 8pm and Thursday from 8 to 10am at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to United Church of Christ or Heartland Hospice.
