UPDATE ON UNIT 2 DAMAGE

Unit 2 superintendent Jeff Strieker gave WGEL Radio an update on the damage at the high school Ag building from the storms last Friday.  Strieker said the damage has been temporarily fixed and an insurance representative will inspect the damage before it may be permanently fixed.  Striker also said students are in the building like normal and there was no damage to class rooms and no danger to the students. 

DISTRICT 18 ILLINOIS STATE POLICE CONDUCT A.C.E. PATROL

Illinois State Police Officers of District 18 in Litchfield participated in Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement (A.C.E.) patrols December 16-30.  Officers issued 33 citations including twelve speeding tickets and four occupant restraint citations.  There was one alcohol and drug related arrest and no DUI arrests.  According to Illinois State Police Captain William Smith, A.C.E. patrols will continue as officers work to save lives by taking DUI offenders off the roads.

BOND COUNTY HIGHWAY ENGINEER MIKE MCCORMICK RESIGNS

At the Tuesday morning Bond County Board Meeting, Highway Engineer Mike McCormick presented his resignation to the board.  McCormick, who has been with the highway department for almost eleven years, will become Vice President of Engineers for Hudson and Associates in Alton.  McCormick said he enjoyed his time as Bond County Highway Engineer and said the highway employees, county officials, and department heads were great to work with, and he will miss working with all of them.  McCormick thanked all who have helped him over the years and said his new position will include design, engineering, and public relations.  County officials are currently searching for a new highway engineer.

FREE MEDICARE COUNSELING AVAILABLE

The Illinois Department of Insurance Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP) provides free counseling to help Medicare-eligible individuals determine how they would like to receive Medicare health benefits and provide information on new benefits provided under the federal Affordable Care Act.  Medicare beneficiaries who have not enrolled in a Medicare drug plan before, or who want to make changes to an existing plan, should do so as soon as possible to ensure uninterrupted access to medications at chosen pharmacies.  SHIP assists Illinoisans who have questions about or problems with Medicare, Medicare supplemental insurance, advantage plans, claims and appeals, prescription drug coverage, and long term care insurance.  SHIP staff may be reached toll-free at 1-800-548-9034.

MARY MCKINNERNEY

Mary McKinnerney, age 73, of Sorento, passed away Tuesday, January 4. Funeral services will be Friday, at 11:00 a.m. at the Perfetti Funeral Home in Sorento. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

MARLENE GAD

Marlene Gad, age 70, of Panama, passed away Wednesday, January 5 at her home.  Funeral services for 70 year-old Marlene Gad will be Saturday, at 1:00 p.m. at the Panama United Methodist Church.  Burial will be in Union Cemetery.  Friends may call Saturday, from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the church.  The Perfetti Funeral Home in Panama is in charge of arrangements.
