GREENVILLE REGIONAL HOSPITAL WELCOMES 2011 NEW YEAR’S BABY

Kylee Diana Gibson, of Greenville, was the first baby born in 2011 at the Greenville Regional Hospital Family Birth Center. Kylee was born at 2:34 a.m. Tuesday, January 4 and she weighed 6 pounds - 3 ounces. The proud parents are Vanessa and Kyle Gibson of Greenville. In keeping with a long-standing tradition, the first infant born in the new year was welcomed with a variety of gifts for baby and parents.  Gifts contributed this year included an assortment of infant items from the Hospital Birth Center, free first-year immunizations and infant supplies from the Bond County Health Department, savings bonds, and other gifts from local businesses. FARM CREDIT OFFERING COLLEGE AGRICULTURE SCHOLARSHIPS

Farm Credit Services of Illinois will give twenty-five $1,000.00 “We Understand” college scholarships to current high school seniors.  Applicants must be college-bound and pursuing an agriculture-related curriculum and career. MARTHA ON COMMON GROUND PLAY

WGEL Radio spoke with Martha Radcliff about the upcoming drama, Ayn Rand’s “Night of January 16th” being presented by “Our Common Ground” at the Bond County Courthouse in February.  She said the play will be in an actual court room to add a sense of realism, and the jury will include those in attendance if they desire.  The drama has two possible endings based upon verdicts of the jury.  The play is Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, February 11- 13. Get your tickets early because the main courtroom will only seat 65. Tickets are $10.00 each and available at Watson’s Drug Store and Adams Bro's Coffee Shop.

SMALL BUSINESS WORKSHOP AT KASKASKIA COLLEGE

The Small Business Development Center at Kaskaskia College will host a “Starting a Small Business in Illinois” workshop Monday, January 31 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., at the College Workforce Center located at 325 S. ILLINOIS TEACHER FINALIST FOR NATIONAL TEACHER OF THE YEAR

Annice Brave, 2011 Illinois Teacher of the Year, has been named one of four finalists for National Teacher of the Year.  Brave is an English and journalism teacher at Alton High School and was chosen Illinois Teacher of the Year last October from a field of eight finalists.  She has been teaching 23 years, serves as the chair of the English department, and was the first teacher in Alton Community Unit School District 11 to earn National Board Certification.  Brave said, “I am honored and humbled to be named among these four finalists for this prestigious award.”

ROBERT J. “BOB” CUNNINGHAM

Robert J. “Bob” Cunningham, age 46, of O’Fallon, passed away Thursday, January 13. A funeral Mass will be Saturday, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in O’Fallon. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Shiloh. Friends may call Friday, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, from 8:00 to 9:45 a.m. at the church. Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden is in charge of the arrangements.

EDMUND A. THOLE

Edmund A. Thole age 85 of Carlyle passed away Thursday January 13th at Carlyle Healthcare Center. A Mass of Christian Burial for 85 year old Edmund Thole will be Monday at 11am at St. Mary’s Church in Carlyle. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitations will be Sunday from 4 to 8pm and Monday from 9 to 10:30am at Zieren Day Funeral Home in Carlyle.

FREDERICK J. “FRED” STILT JR.

Frederick John “Fred” Stilt Jr., age 75, of Vandalia, passed away Monday, January 10 at his home.  A memorial service for 75 year-old Fred Stilt Jr. is today (Friday), at 7:00 p.m. at Holt & File Funeral Home in Vandalia.  Friends may call today (Friday), from 6:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia at a later date.  Memorials are suggested to the family.
