MIDAMERICA AIRPORT DIRECTOR SPEAKS AT SCIGA MEETING

MidAmerica St. Louis Airport Director Tim Cantwell was the guest speaker at the recent South Central Illinois Growth Alliance meeting.  He spoke of the economic advantages the MidAmerica Airport provides in the  area of international import and export and expanded job opportunities.  Last year the airport handled its first air freight from China, part of more than seven million tons of international cargo processed through MidAmerica in 2010.  Cantwell also said Boeing established its first aircraft manufacturing plant in Illinois at MidAmerica bringing 75 jobs to the area.

BALD EAGLE PRESENTATION AT CARLYLE LAKE

Bald Eagles have been sighted recently in increasingly large numbers at Carlyle Lake.  The population of Bald Eagles has steadily increased in Illinois over the past several years due to federal laws and conservation efforts to save the majestic bird of prey. Sunday, February 13, at 1:30 p.m., the World Bird Sanctuary will present a program entitled “All About Eagles” at the Carlyle Lake Visitor Center.  A live Bald Eagle will be on display for an up-close view of the beautiful bird.  After the presentation, you may view eagles at various locations around Carlyle Lake. Bring your binoculars and dress appropriately for the weather.

KASKASKIA COLLEGE HOSTS FINANCIAL AID WORKSHOP

Kaskaskia College is hosting a financial aid workshop Sunday, February 20, at 1:00 p.m., for parents and college students desiring assistance in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  Sessions will also be offered on scholarship searching, financial aid 101, and veteran benefits.  Please bring a calculator, 2010 tax information with 1040 forms for parents and students, student drivers’ license and social security card, records of untaxed income, and information regarding net worth of family and student assets.  For more information, call 618-545-3080.

GREENVILLE PLAN COMMISSION SCHEDULES PUBLIC HEARING

The Greenville Plan Commission has scheduled a public hearing for Monday, February 28, at 7:00 p.m., at the Greenville Municipal Building to consider a request by Ed & Betty Suess at 1209 E. State Rt. 140 to approve a petition for annexation into the corporate boundary of the City of Greenville.  For more information, call the city manager at 664-1644.

VIRGINIA E. OFFERMANN

Virginia E. Offerman, age 89, of Highland, passed away Thursday, February 3 at Highland Health Care Center. Graveside services will be at a later date and there is no visitation. Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland is in charge of the arrangements.

T. WILLIAM CROUCH JR.

T. William Crouch Jr., age 69, of Greenville, passed away Sunday, February 6 at his home.  Funeral services will be Tuesday, at 11:00 a.m. at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville.  Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery with full military honors.  Friends may call Monday, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to the family.

ERMILIE BONURANT

Ermilie “Erm” Bondurant, age 69, of Hillsboro, passed away Friday, February 4 at Hillsboro Health Care Center. Memorial services will be at a later date. Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro is in charge of the arrangements.

CATHERINE KOONCE

Catherine L. Koonce, age 85, of Mulberry Grove, passed away Thursday, February 3 at Greenville Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be Tuesday, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Vandalia. Burial will be in McInturff Cemetery in rural Vandalia. Friends may call Tuesday, from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Memorials are suggested to Bond County Hospice or the donor's choice.

ALLAN FREY

Allan A. Frey, age 76, of Pierron, passed away Saturday, February 5 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland. A funeral Mass will be Tuesday, at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pierron. Burial will be in Calvery Cemetery also in Pierron. Friends may call Monday, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday, from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. at the Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. Memorials are suggested to the Church Building Fund or in the form of Masses at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pierron.
