SCHAEFER HONORED BY I&I TRACTOR CLUB

The I&I Tractor Club of Penfield, Illinois presented an award of appreciation to Sherry Schaefer, an active supporter of the organization.  Sherry regularly contributes to their website and press releases, and was recently alongside Max Armstrong on the RFD TV show. Schaefer said, “I don’t do this for recognition.  I do it because it is important to anyone who has ever sat on the seat of a tractor or went to bed with a full stomach.  It is a great honor to be recognized by this group that I look up to so much.” Schaefer is the owner of 3-Point Ink, LLC, and the editor of Oliver Heritage Magazine and Heritage Iron Magazine.  Heritage Iron Magazine features tractors of all brands, makes, and models produced between 1960 and 1985.  Schaefer is relocating her entire operation to Greenville in a few months.

TWO MULBERRY GROVE FIREFIGHTERS HONORED

At the recent Mulberry Grove Fire Protection Association annual recognition banquet, two firefighters were honored for their outstanding efforts.  Fire Chief Dwight Volkmar received the First Responder of the Year award and Josh Miller the Firefighter of the Year award.  Dwight Volkmar has served as Fire Chief for the past fourteen years and has been a firefighter for 27 years. Miller has been a member of the Mulberry Grove Department for eight years.  Fire department officers chose recipients of the awards based upon performance and responses to alarms.  Yearly service pins were presented to Kevin Rickman for fifteen years service and five-year pins to Wes Joplin and Jeremy Hopkins.  Curt Waters and Chuck Steiner received first-year pins.  Volkmar told WGEL an anonymous donor gave the fire department a rescue jack kit containing four stabilizers, chains, jacks, and straps.  The equipment has several uses including stabilizing a vehicle which has rolled onto its top or sides while firefighters work to rescue trapped persons.

KINGSBURY PARK DISTRICT PUBLIC HEARING ON 2012 BUDGET SET

The Kingsbury Park District Board met recently. The public hearing for the 2012 budget is set for March 16 at 6:30 p.m. The board will hear public input before the monthly meeting that day.

There has been some inquiry on the reason for upping the soccer fee for this year. Director Jerry Sauerwein said the increase was based on the cost for soccer last year and the projected cost for this year. Sauerwein said the increase has nothing to do with the theft involving a former employee. This year the two younger leagues will still be playing at the soccer fields located at the pool area, with the older leagues playing at the Greenville College soccer practice fields. The college will provide coaches and referees.
