GREENVILLE FIRE PROTECTION – 2010 DATA

The Greenville Fire Protection District has released information regarding its calls and service during 2010.  All calls and responses for the year were reported by day of the week, day of the month, hour of the day, equipment used and cause for the response.
Training by month was listed and included Hazardous Material Refreshers, Auto Extraction, Rope Rescue, Starcom Radio Operations and Rescue Mazes.
The District had 212 responses for the year, gave mutual aid for 21 responses and received mutual aid for 16 responses.
Length of Service Recognition was given to those with 5 and 15 years of service to the Fire Protection District.  Special recognition went to Glen Marti with 25 years and to Carl Sutton with 35 years of service. A big thank you to all our firefighters.

COMETS SPORTS BOOSTERS TO HOST THREE-ON-THREE TOURNAMENT

The Greenville Comets Sports Boosters is hosting a three-on-three basketball tournament Saturday, March 19 at the high school and junior high gymnasiums.  The tournament is open to boys and girls in grades three through eight.  The cost is $15.00 per player and each team is allowed four players.  For more information or to receive a registration form, call Joe Alstat at 664-5580.

GREENVILLE COLLEGE LECTURE SERIES

Greenville College is hosting a lecture series this Spring, on life and culture in China, by visiting scholar Ann Shen. Shen is the Dean of the English Department at Huzhou New Century Foreign Language School in Huzhou, China.
Shen will give three lectures on different aspects of life in China. Friday, February 18 the lecture will cover important Chinese festivals and holidays.  The March 9 lecture will feature Chinese culture and customs and April 13 Shen will provide an overview of the Chinese educational system.  All lectures will be from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. in the Krober Room in Armington Center. Provost Randy Bergen said the college is excited to have Ms. Shen and that her lectures will help students better understand Chinese culture, relate to the booming China market, and better relate to the growing number of Chinese students attending Greenville College. Ms. Shen is teaching a course in speaking Mandarin.

BOND MADISON WATER COMPANY ANNUAL MEETING

The fifteenth annual meeting of the Bond Madison Water Company will be Tuesday, March 1 at 7:00 p.m. in the St. Nicholas Hall in Pocahontas.  The agenda includes a report on the operation of the water company, an update of completed and pending system improvements, and the election of  directors and a bulk users representative.

ANNA B. “ANN” ARNOLD

Anna B. “Ann” Arnold, age 96, of Highland, passed away Thursday, February 17 at Faith Care Center/ Faith Countryside Home in Highland. Funeral services will be Monday, at 12:00 p.m. at Lake View Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights. Burial will be in Lake View Memorial Gardens. Friends may call Monday, from 10:30 a.m. until service time. Memorials are suggested to Faith Countryside Homes or Heartland Hospice.

CHESTER C. HILL

Chester C. Hill, age 86, of Coffeen, passed away Thursday, February 17. Funeral services will be Monday, at 10:00 a.m. at Toberman-Dean Funeral Home in Coffeen. Burial will be in Olive Hill Cemetery with military honors by VFW Post 1306 of Taylor Springs. Friends may call Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. 

CLYDE W. “HOTCH” ISERT

Clyde W. “Hotch” Isert, age 91, of Highland, passed away Thursday, February 17 at Faith Care Center/Faith Countryside Homes in Highland. Funeral services will be Monday, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Monday, from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland.
