GARAGE FIRE IN DONNELLSON

Shoal Creek Firefighters were paged Saturday, at 8:35 p.m., to a report of a garage fire on Jefferson Street in Donnellson.  According to firefighter Julie Leneave, the garage was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived and was a total loss.  The cause of the fire is not known and is currently under investigation by the Illinois State Fire Marshall.  Taylor Springs Firefighters provided mutual aid with manpower and a tanker.  No injuries were reported and firefighters were on the scene for about 2 ½ - 3 hours.


AFHM HOSTS HERITAGE DAYS

The American Farm Heritage Museum annual Heritage Days celebration is Friday, July 29-Sunday, July 31.  WGEL spoke with Ollie Schaefer who said Allis Chalmers is the featured make for the tractor shows and there will be tractor pulls during the event.  Barrel rides and pedal pulls will be offered free for kids and the saw mill, threshing machine, and steam engine will be in operation.  Horse plowing and horse pulling will also be a part of the weekend event.  There will be a car show Sunday, from 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. and you may enjoy live music every day in an air conditioned building.  Schaefer said there will be many more vendors than last year, they will have great food, ice cream, root beer floats and much more, and the Lil’ Red Barn Museum will be open. Come to the American Farm Heritage Museum’s Heritage Days, July 29-31, located just south of I-70.


MULBERRY GROVE MUSIC BOOSTERS TO MEET

The Mulberry Grove Music Boosters organizational meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, July 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria.  The agenda includes information on the member drive, Mulberry Grove and Bond County Fair parades, fundraising ideas, and installation of officers.

2011 MADISON COUNTY FAIR QUEEN

The 2011 Madison County Fair got underway Sunday.  The queen pageant was at the Elementary School Auditorium right next to the fairgrounds Sunday afternoon.  Allisa Frerker of Highland was crowned 2011 queen. The Madison County Fair is going on now through Friday at Lindendale Fairgrounds in Highland.



BOND COUNTY FAIR BEGINS WITH CHURCH SERVICES

The county-wide church service at the Bond County Fair is Sunday, July 31 starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Grandstand.  Dr. Gregory Sanders and Friends will play until the worship service begins at 7:00.  The “Chosen Ones,” a southern gospel group, will bring their unique approach to gospel music to the service.  The Bond County Fair Church Service is sponsored by the Bond County Ministerial Association and there is no charge to attend.

Bernadine Frankovich    

Bernadine Frankovich, age 90, of Albers, passed away Friday, July 22.  A funeral Mass is Friday, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Albers.  Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery, also in Albers.  Friends may call Thursday, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Friday, from 8:00 – 9:00 a.m. at the Hempen Funeral Home in Albers.

Evelyn M. Wildi

Evelyn M. Wildi, age 90, of Highland, passed away Monday, July 25 at Faith Care Center in Highland. There will be no funeral services. Memorials are suggested to Highland Home or Louis Latzer Public Library. Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland is in charge of arrangements.

Jon A. Steinhoff

Jon A. Steinhoff, age 49, of Belleville, passed away Sunday, July 24 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville.  Funeral services will be Wednesday, at 10:00 a.m. at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland.  Burial will be in Highland City Cemetery.  Friends may call Tuesday, from 5:00- 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, from 8 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to the Anderson Hospital Foundation.
