TUESDAY AT THE BOND COUNTY FAIR

Everybody loves a parade and tonight you may see one of the best in the area at the Bond County Fair.  The weather looks like it will be cool and dry so it will be a perfect night to bring the family to watch the parade. Other events today include the dairy show at 9:00 a.m. and the Flip Flop Tumblers entertaining at 5:00 p.m. The carnival opens at 6:00 and the parade begins at 7:00.  Following the parade, watch the Firemen’s Rodeo in the grandstand. Don’t miss it. It’s the last night this year to enjoy the Bond County Fair.


THE 2011 4-H AUCTION AGAIN EXCEEDS THE PREVIOUS YEAR

Monday night’s 4-H Auction at the Bond County Fair netted 4-H kids over 83 thousand dollars up over 20 thousand from 2010. The 2011 total was also the highest in the last 4 years. Bond County 4-H students sold 10 Steers, 29 Barrows, Lambs, Rabbits, and Milk products to a host of local business’s and individual bidders during the two hour auction. Again the total for Monday nights Bond County 4-H auction was $83,522.10.

GREENVILLE FIREFIGHTERS CALLED TO CARLISLE SYNTEC WAREHOUSE

Greenville Firefighters responded today, at 8:45 a.m. to a fire alarm at the Carlisle SynTec Warehouse on Peterson Drive.  According to the fire report, a worker hit a sprinkler head in the warehouse activating the system.  Firefighters assisted city workers with relieving water pressure in the sprinkler system so repairs could be made.  No injuries were reported and firefighters were on the scene about 45 minutes.


FREE KIDNEY SCREENING AT BOND COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT

The Bond County Health Department in conjunction with the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois is offering a free kidney and diabetes screening through the KidneyMobile program.  Screenings include blood pressure, blood sugar, body mass index, waist circumference, and urinalysis for kidney disease.  No appointment is needed for the free kidney screening Thursday, August 25 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Bond County Health Department at 1520 South Fourth Street in Greenville.  For more information, call the health department at 664-1442.

MARCOOT JERSEY CREAMERY HONORED AT ILLINOIS STATE FAIR

August 16 is Agriculture Day at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield and Marcoot Jersey Creamery is being honored for their achievements in the Agri-Tourism Industry.  WGEL spoke with Amy Marcoot about recent awards and the history of the business in Bond County. Amy said they were very excited and honored to be chosen as one of the 2011, top twelve businesses in Agri-Tourism by the Illinois Comptroller’s Office.  They have also won awards for their cheese, taking a Silver Award with their havarti and mozzarella at the North American Jersey Cheese Awards. Marcoot said she and her sisters are the seventh generation of Marcoots to have Jersey cows. Their family came from Switzerland in 1842 and they are blessed to be able to carry on the family tradition.

Chuck Hughes

Chuck Hughes, age 62, of Witt, passed away Sunday, August 7 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.  Funeral services will be Wednesday, at 11:00 a.m. at Toberman-Dean Funeral Home in Coffeen.  Burial will be in Mt. Moriah Cemetery.  Friends may call Tuesday, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Francis J. Rinderer

Francis J. Rinderer, age 93, of Greenville, passed away Saturday, August 6 at Fair Oaks Nursing Home. Funeral services will be Saturday, at 2:00 p.m. at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville.  Burial will be in Mt. Auburn Cemetery.  Friends may call Friday, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, prior to service time at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to Bond County Hospice.

Gloria "Tootie" Tjaden

Gloria "Tootie" Tjaden, age 78, of New Douglas, passed away Saturday, August 6 at Community Memorial Hospital in Staunton.  Funeral services will be Wednesday, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lesicko Funeral Home in Livingston.  Burial will be in New Douglas Cemetery.  Friends may call Tuesday, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
