DEADLINE FOR VETERANS MEMORIAL BRICKS

August 31 is the deadline for applications for memorial bricks to be placed at the Veterans’ Memorial for the Veterans’ Day ceremony November 11.  WGEL spoke with Tony Koonce who said applications may be obtained at any of the banks in Greenville, the County Clerk' office, County Treasurer's office, or by calling him at 664-1976. Instructions are included on the application form. Veterans need not have served during a war or overseas and may be living or deceased.



SOUTHWESTERN ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE ANNUAL MEETING

Southwestern Electric Cooperative’s annual meeting is September 10 at the Bond County Community Unit 2 Junior High School.  The annual meeting offers fun for the entire family and an opportunity for members to participate in the business of their cooperative.  Highlights include free breakfast, games, activities and prizes for all ages, health fair and information booths, and live music.  Breakfast will be served from 7:00 - 9:30 a.m. and the business meeting begins at 10:00.

BILL BOND GUEST LECTURER VISITING BOND COUNTY UNIT 2 SCHOOLS

The Bond County Unit 2 School District welcomes School Safety Specialist and nationally renown speaker Mr. Bill Bond who will speak to parents and students August 29 and 30.  Bill Bond served as principal of Heath High School in Paducah, Kentucky for eight years.  He is now the School Safety Specialist for the National Association of Secondary Principals.  In December 1997, during his tenure at Heath High School, a tragic school shooting resulted in the deaths of three students.  This shooting and shootings at other schools across the nation precipitated his keen involvement in safe school awareness.  He has spoken at dozens of schools that have had school shootings to assist in the school’s recovery.
He will speak Monday, August 29 at 7:00 p.m. in the Greenville High School auditorium to district parents and community members on the topic of “School Bullying / Cyber Bullying and the Negative Effects on School Culture."  He will speak to students in grades 5-12 August 30 at 9:00 a.m. in the high school gym.

TROY FALL FEST

The Troy Fall Fest is September 10, from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., at the Tri-Township Park in Troy. The City-Wide Garage Sale is from 7:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and the Bradley R. Smith 5K Run starts at 8:00 a.m. Booths will offer a variety of quality merchandise, there will be entertainment, and great food.  A baby pageant is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. and a talent contest at 11:00.  WGEL spoke with Dawn Mushill at the Troy/Maryville/St. Jacob Chamber of Commerce who said the city-wide garage sale is throughout Troy at more than 100 addresses as well as the Troy Park.  For more information, visit www.troymaryvillecoc.com.
