BOND COUNTY BOARD OCTOBER MEETING

Progress has been good on the Jamestown bridge replacement. That was some of the news from Tuesday night’s Bond County Board meeting.  The new completion date for the project is November 1, 2011.  The board discussed where the money from traffic tickets goes once those tickets are paid.  The county I-70 Patrol, along with city and state police, write tickets in Bond County and when a ticket is paid that money is broken up and sent to different departments.  With the I-70 Patrol monitoring for speeders on the interstate, revenue from those tickets can be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.  Tom DeVore said he will likely have more information about where those revenues go at the next county board meeting. 
An agreement might be reached and work could begin soon at Sea Graves Cemetery.  The county board, cemetery association, and Kevin Devore have been discussing ways to fix the problem for some time.  The work could include the construction of a French Drain and ditch clearing to allow for better water run off from cemetery property.

BOIL ORDER IN HIGHLAND

A boil order, issued by the City of Highland Public Works Department, is in effect until further notice for customers on the south side of Broadway from Keeven Drive to 2780 Broadway.  Streets on the south side of Broadway in the boil order area include Sunrise, Sundew, Sun Fish, Sun court, and Keeven Drive.  Sunflower Drive is NOT included in the boil order area.

PICKUP TRUCK FIRE IN HIGHLAND

Highland Firefighters responded Tuesday, at 2:18 p.m., to a report of a truck fire on Deal Street.  According to Assistant Fire Chief Kerry Federer, the truck was in a business parking lot and was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived.  The owner said he was having trouble with the engine not running properly and added something to the gas tank.  He soon noticed smoke and flames coming from under the hood.  Firefighters extinguished the fire and the truck was a total loss.  No injuries were reported and firefighters were on the scene about 15 minutes.

TRICK-OR-TREAT IN GREENVILLE

Halloween Trick-or-Treat hours in Greenville are Monday, October 31, from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. for children age 12 and younger.  Parents should accompany children in groups and go only to doors where porch lights are on.  Costumes should contain reflective material to increase visibility.  Restricted vision masks should not be worn and children should not carry sharp or pointed props such as knives or swords.  Children should carry flashlights and cross streets at intersections.  Instruct children to not accept treats from strangers and wait until getting home to eat treats.  Notify the police department immediately at 664-2131 if suspicious treats are found.
