SMITHBORO FIREFIGHTERS RESPOND TO MOBILE HOME FIRE
Smithboro Firefighters responded to a mobile home fire at 1477 Laurel Lane in rural Greenville Monday morning. Fire Chief Dale Deverick said the owners of the home tried putting the fire out with fire extinguishers and by doing so possibly limited the damage to the living room and dining room. However, the home, owned by Michael Qualls, is considered a total loss and no cause has yet been determined. Greenville Firefighters provided mutual aid. No injuries were reported and firefighters were on the scene about four hours.
ANNUAL ACADEMIC FOUNDATION DINNER
The Bond County Unit 2 Academic Foundation annual dinner is Thursday, October 20th in the Family Life Center of the First Christian Church.. We spoke with Foundation President Edmar Schreiber who said music will be provided by the children from Mrs. Lugge’s class. Fema's Catering will prepare the meal. Due to various funding issues in the state of Illinois, educators always seem to run short on money for supplies for the classroom. There are always new tools which teachers want or need to be able to provide a stimulating learning environment. The Bond County Unit 2 Academic Foundation strives to raise money to provide these things for the children and teachers. Recently, most of their donations have taken the form of new technology or software.
In the past few years, the Academic Foundation has donated between $15,000.00 - $18,000.00 to teachers for their grant requests and proposals. This would not be possible without the memberships from the local community. Membership fees are what constitute the majority of these donations.
Advance tickets for the event are $12.00 for adults, and $8.00 for children ages 5-10. Children under the age of 5 eat for free. Tickets will be $13.00 at the door.
