SHOOTING IN ST. JOSEPH'S HOSPITAL EMERGENCY ROOM

There was a shooting Sunday in the emergency room at St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese. Dennis K. Parker, Jr., age 25, of Carlyle, was in custody in the Clinton County Jail for alleged parole violation and failure to report to the jail for weekend sentencing.   Sunday, at approximately 4:00 p.m., Clinton County Correctional Officers took Parker to the hospital’s emergency room for medical treatment.  While there, Parker struggled with the officers and managed to get control of an officer’s sidearm, causing it to discharge twice before he and the gun were secured. No one was injured.  Parker was taken back to the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office where he was held until taken into custody by Illinois Department of Corrections Officers.

SHOAL CREEK FIREFIGHTERS CALLED TO HAY BALES ON FIRE

Shoal Creek Firefighters were paged Sunday, at 3:22 p.m., to a report of a brush fire on Ripson Bridge Avenue.  According to Firefighter Julie Leneave, it was not a brush fire but was about 35 large round alfalfa hay bales burning along the road close to the bridge.  The hay bales belonged to Steven E. Wall and the cause of the fire is not known.  The fire spread to a nearby wooded area and firefighters were on the scene about three and a half hours extinguishing the fire in the woods and confining the fire to the burning hay bales.  All the bales were destroyed.  The value of the hay is not known and no injuries were reported.
