BOND COUNTY BOARD TO MEET MONDAY
As they work on next years budget the Bond County Board will meet with department heads next Monday and Tuesday, at 5:00 p.m. to go over spending for next year. County Clerk Randy Reitz will schedule times for department heads to talk with the board about their next years spending plans. The board decided, at Tuesday night’s regular board meeting, it would be good to check budget items with the department heads. In other business, the board received news from the Bond County Health Board about plans to conduct a two day recycling event in early December to allow citizens to turn in old computers and electronic devices because as of the first of the year it will be unlawful to dispose of that equipment in regular trash. Board member Tom Devore noted the County spends 115 thousand dollars a year on inmate meals and medical expenses.
ILLINOIS HUNTERS HEADING TO THE FIELD FOR FIREARM DEER SEASON
The first of two firearm deer hunting weekends is Friday – Sunday, November 18-20. The second weekend completing the seven-day season is December 1-4. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources encourages hunters to enjoy their time hunting but to always make ethics and safety top priorities. The number one cause of hunting accidents in Illinois is falling from a tree stand. In 2010, there were 22 reported hunting accidents, eleven involving tree stands, two of which were fatal. When using a tree stand, check ladder stands to be sure they are stable, wear a fall arrest system full body safety harness all the time between leaving and returning to the ground, and use a haul line to raise and lower your equipment and unloaded firearm or bow into a tree stand. When hunting with a firearm, know your target and what is beyond your target, point the muzzle in a safe direction, and treat every firearm as if it were loaded. Legal hunting hours for firearm deer season are one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset.
