UNIT 2 SCHOOL BOARD SETS TRUTH IN TAXATION HEARING

At the November Unit 2 School Board meeting, the board set a Truth in Taxation Hearing for December 19, at 7:00 p.m. in the Jr. High Library. The board is considering raising the levy by 5 % or less and public request prompted the hearing. Several citizens were present for the levy discussion.
In other action, the Extracurricular Drug and Alcohol testing was voted down 6-1. The FY2011 annual audit report was presented and approved with the overall score better than last year.
The district received a total of $3,316,400 in October. The last of FY2011 checks were received two months ahead of last year’s payments.


GREENVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT CALLED TO CLOTHES DRYER FIRE

At approximately 1:00 p.m. Monday, Greenville Firefighters responded to a call of a fire at the home of Chris Borwick, at #3 Spring Hill in Greenville.  Firefighters found the fire in the clothes dryer, extinguished it, and removed the dryer from the home.  Firefighters found no fire in the wall and helped ventilate smoke.  There were no injuries.

MARCOOT CREAMERY SELLING CHEESE IN CHICAGO

Marcoot Jersey Creamery in Greenville is selling cheese to stores in Chicago.  We spoke to Amy Marcoot who said Marcoot Jersey Farms has been in the Greenville area for seven generations since 1842.  Amy and her sisters opened the creamery June 5, 2010.  They recently started selling their Tomato Basil Jack and Alpine Style cheese products in Chicago through various retailers and restaurants.  To purchase their cheese, just go to the creamery at 526 Dudleyville Road.


SECRETARY OF STATE OFFICES CLOSED FOR THANKSGIVING

Illinois Secretary of State offices and facilities will be closed Thursday and Friday, November 24-25 due to Thanksgiving.  Driver service facilities normally open Tuesday through Saturday will reopen Saturday, November 26. All Monday through Friday facilities will be open for business Monday, November 28.  If you have any questions, check the website www.cyberdriveillinois.com.


GREENVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY THANKSGIVING SCHEDULE

The Greenville Public Library will close at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday and remain closed Thursday and Friday, November 24-25 for the Thanksgiving Holiday.  The library will be open Saturday, November 26 from 8:00 a.m. – noon.

OBITUARIES

Russell D. Hoffman

Russell D. Hoffman, age 89, of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, passed away Monday, November 21 at National Park Medical Center in Hot Springs.  Funeral arrangements for 89 year-old Russell D. Hoffman are pending at the Spengel-Boulanger Funeral home in Highland.

Fern Hagler

Fern Hagler, age 92, of Greenville, passed away Monday, November 21 at Helia Healthcare.  Graveside funeral services will be Saturday, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Greenville.  Friends may call Friday, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home in Greenville.  Memorials are suggested to the Greenville First Christian Church.
