FIRE ALARM AT MULBERRY GROVE SCHOOL

Mulberry Grove Firefighters responded Tuesday, at 11:07 a.m., to a fire alarm at the Mulberry Grove School.  According to Fire Chief Dwight Volkmar, a wire in one of the electric heaters in a modular elementary classroom building vibrated against the metal case of the furnace, wearing a hole in the insulation and shorting against the case causing smoke.  The fire alarm system functioned correctly.  Everyone evacuated safely and the children stayed in the main building for the remainder of the day while the furnace was repaired.  Firefighters disconnected the circuits to the furnace, checked for additional problems, and cleared smoke from the room. There were no injuries and firefighters were on the scene about an hour.
