TWO NEW TRAFFIC SAFETY LAWS TAKE EFFECT JANUARY 1ST

Two important pieces of legislation supported by Secretary of State Jesse White will take effect as new laws January 1 and include measures to improve school bus safety and increase safety belt usage. One of the new laws allows a school bus company, with a reasonable suspicion their school bus driver is under the influence of alcohol or drugs, to require the driver to submit to alcohol and drug testing before driving a school bus.  The Secretary of State’s office will suspend the school bus driver permit for three years, of a driver who refuses to submit to a test or fails to obtain a zero tolerance for the presence of alcohol, drugs, or intoxicating compounds. The other new law requires backseat passengers to use safety belts.  Prior to this change, only front seat passengers were required to where a safety belt.

Here in Greenville, Waste Water Treatment workers recorded three-tenths of an inch of rain before the snow fell and six-tenths of an inch of snow.

KASKASKIA COLLEGE NAMED MILITARY FRIENDLY SCHOOL

G. I. Jobs, the premier magazine for military personnel transitioning into civilian life, named Kaskaskia College a Military Friendly School for 2012.  The list honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities, and trade schools doing the most to embrace America’s military service members and veterans as students.  KC President Dr. Jim Underwood said, “KC is proud to be listed as a military friendly school.  Making the list means Kaskaskia College is doing the right thing for our area veterans who have served our country.”  The list is the go-to resource for prospective student veterans searching for schools that provide the right overall experience.  For more information, call 545-3182.
