MULBERRY GROVE 8TH GRADE BASKETBALL TEAM HEADS TO SECTIONALS

The Mulberry Grove 8th Grade Boys Basketball team is playing in the Sectional game at Beecher City tonight.  Mulberry Grove Superintendent and 8th Grade Boys Basketball Coach Mike Gauch said the 8th Grade boys won the Regional last week in Mulberry Grove.  They will be facing the Beecher City Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 8 in the Beecher City Sectional for a chance to go to the state tournament.  Coach Gauch said the team has really worked very hard and over-achieved for him this year.  He is very proud of them and hopes they will extend their season by another week or so.

AGRONOMY TEAM TAKES 8TH AT STATE

The Greenville High School FFA Agronomy Team recently competed at State in Bloomington.  FFA Advisor Steve Zimmerman said the team first competed at the Section level at Lakeland College in Mattoon where they placed second behind Nokomis.  At Sectionals, Kaeden Mollett, Daniel Suess, and Dylan Hilmes placed in the top ten.  The team competed at the state level at the University of Illinois.  Although there were no individuals in the top ten at State, Zimmerman said he was extremely proud of the team for performing as well as they did and placing 8th.  Participants in the Agronomy competition must possess an in-depth knowledge of seeds, insects, soils and crops. They must also demonstrate skill in solving complex problems related to crop production.

PUBLIC HEARING SCHEDULED FOR VALENTINE’S DAY

The City of Greenville scheduled a public hearing for Tuesday, February 14, at 7:30 p.m., at the municipal building to discuss a grant application.  The grant will be used to complete water line improvements within the city.  The hearing will cover the amount of funds available, the range of activities to be undertaken, the estimated amount proposed for activities that will benefit lower income individuals, plans for minimizing the displacement as a result of the activities, and a detailed list of community development needs.  Everyone is invited to attend the hearing and submit oral and/or written comments.  If you have any special needs or if you have any questions, contact the city manager at 664-1644.

TEST DRIVE EVENT FOR COMETS SPORTS BOOSTERS

May 12, Tri-Ford in Greenville is hosting a Test Drive event to benefit the Comets Sports Boosters.  Greenville High School Athletic Director Joe Alstat said this is the 3rd Annual Test Drive for Your School, sponsored by Tri-Ford in Greenville.  For every person who test drives a new Ford truck, car, or SUV, the Comets Sports Boosters will receive $20.00.  The event is limited to one person per household.  Vehicles should be available to test drive beginning at 9:00 a.m. and the event will end between 1:00 and 2:00 p.m.  If you have any questions or if you would like to join the Comets Sports Boosters, call the high school athletic department at 664-1370, extension 5.

Norma M. Deiters

Norma M. Deiters, age 86, of Trenton, passed away Monday, February 6 at Aviston Countryside Manor.  A private family burial is planned. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Southern Illinois.  Moss Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Young J. Kim

Young J. Kim, age 77, of Highland, passed away Tuesday, February 7 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.  Funeral arrangements for 77 year-old Young J. Kim are pending at the Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland.
