FATAL TRAFFIC ACCIDENT IN MADISON COUNTY

Illinois State Police responded Sunday, at 4:14 a.m., to the scene of a two-car accident on Rt. 4, 4 ½ miles north of Klenke Rd. in Madison County.  According to the accident report, Roger Stryker, age 41, of Worden, was northbound on Rt. 4 in a Chevy Blazer and Allen Wempe, age 26, of Staunton, was southbound in a Dodge Neon.  Stryker’s Blazer crossed the center line and struck Wempe’s Neon head-on.  Stryker’s vehicle left the road to the right, traveled down an embankment and caught fire.  Wempe’s car also left the road to the right and traveled down the embankment.  Stryker was taken to Anderson Hospital with serious injuries.  Wempe was pronounced dead at the scene.  According to the report, Wempe was allegedly not wearing a seatbelt and Stryker is suspected of alleged DUI.  Illinois State Police are investigating the accident.


KC BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEET CONCERNING TRENTON EDUCATION CENTER

In a special session, the Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees approved a plan for a transfer agreement with the city of Trenton regarding property currently used by the college as the Trenton Education Center.  According to Board Chairman Bill Hawley, the transfer would allow the college to expand programs and launch a major gift campaign to expand the Trenton Education Center.  KC President Dr. Jim Underwood said obtaining and expanding the Trenton facility will quadruple the space available to serve students at the Trenton location.  The Trenton City Council is expected to consider the transfer of the property at its next meeting.

T-SHIRTS FOR COMETS GAME AT BUSCH STADIUM

The Greenville Comets baseball team will play the Edwardsville Tigers Sunday, April 15 at Busch Stadium. Greenville High School Athletic Director Joe Alstat said the Comets Sports Boosters are selling Greenville Comets baseball shirts to commemorate the game at Busch Stadium.  You may order your T-shirt now and orders must be pre-paid. If you need a flyer, email or call the high school office and they will email one to you.  High school students may order Thursday and Friday, March 29 & 30 during lunch hours. Youth and adult sizes are available and the cost is $15.00.  Shirts will be available for pickup Friday, April 13.  If you have any questions, call Joe at 664-5580 or the high school office at 664-1370.

SWEC GEOTHERMAL OPEN HOUSE

Southwestern Electric Cooperative sponsored a geothermal open house recently.  Attendees learned about geothermal technology by visiting a Madison County home and seeing a system in action.  SWEC Director of Communications Larry Deutsch estimated there were approximately 40 persons in attendance.  All organizations involved were represented including Southwestern Electric Cooperative, their propane subsidiary Propane Plus, Ernst Heating and Cooling, and Enertech.  Enertech is the manufacturer of the GeoComfort System.  For more information on geothermal systems or the geothermal open house, call the Cooperative’s Technical Services Department at (800) 637-8667.

DAVID WALKER MEMORIAL SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP

The David Walker Memorial Service Scholarship is currently accepting applications from Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, or Girl Scouts members and former members.  The scholarship’s goal is to encourage and help students continue their education.  The scholarship is a one-time, $500.00 award to one graduating senior from Bond County Community Unit #2 High School who has been in scouting for at least three years and has shown how he or she has helped the community of Bond County by volunteering and helping others.  Applications and additional eligibility requirement information are available at the high school guidance office.  Applications must be submitted by Tuesday, May 1.


ANNUAL EASTER EGG HUNT AT PATRIOT’S PARK

The Greenville Commercial Club and the Greenville Optimist Club are sponsoring the annual Easter Egg Hunt at Patriot’s Park Saturday, April 7 at 2:00 p.m.  Mike Diaz, of the Greenville Commercial Club said as in the past, the Easter Egg Hunt will be conducted in age groups.  There will be four different groups: toddler to age 2, age 3-5, age 6-7, and age 8-9.  In addition to those age groups, there will be a special section set aside for an Easter Egg Hunt for any boys and girls up to the sixth grade who have disabilities.  If you have any questions, call 664-1872.

Antoinette A. “Toni” Engelmann, age 81, of Albers, passed away Friday, March 23. A funeral Mass will be Monday, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Albers. Clara L.
