2 VEHICLE ACCIDENT AT 4TH AND COLLEGE MONDAY AFTERNOON

No one was hurt Monday afternoon in this two car accident according to Greenville Police.  Traffic was stopped for a short time while the scene was cleaned.

BREESE CITY COUNCIL APPROVES VIDEO GAMBLING ORDINANCE

The Breese City Council recently approved an ordinance allowing video gambling in certain establishments.  Breese Mayor Charlie Hilmes said the ordinance basically allows video gambling within the city of Breese.  He went on to say they found out that many years ago there was an ordinance restricting any kind of gambling, including bingo.  He said he did not know if people simply ignored the ordinance but during his time in office there has always been bingo.  It was something that needed to be changed and updated.  After discussing the issue with the council members and members of the community, they came to the conclusion that the people of Breese were not opposed to having video gambling in certain establishments.  Establishments where licensed alcohol consumption is permitted will now also be able to have video gambling.

GREENVILLE CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING

The Greenville City Council is having a special meeting Tuesday at the Municipal Building.  The meeting is to work on the 2012-2013 budget which is to be up for approval at the council’s May meeting.  In addition to the budget discussions, the council will review employee health insurance options as premiums recently went up 39%.  Options such as increasing deductibles, stop-loss plans, and changing carriers will be considered. Council staff are recommending a decision is reached since open enrollment is due to begin May 1. The council will also discuss the addition of a Class C Liquor License requested by Buchheit.

TWO CARDIOLOGISTS JOIN GREENVILLE REGIONAL HOSPITAL CLINICS

Two additional cardiologists will be available at the Greenville Regional Hospital Outpatient Specialty Clinics.  Dr. Mark R. Stampehl and Dr. Shailesh Nandish, both part of Prairie Cardiovascular based in Springfield, are joining Dr. Robert Trask in seeing patients in rotation Mondays in the outpatient clinic.  For information on either doctor or to schedule an appointment, contact Prairie Cardiovascular at 217-788-0706.

KASKASKIA COLLEGE DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION FOR HONORS PROGRAM

May 1 is the deadline for Kaskaskia College students to apply for the fall 2012 honors program.  The mission of the honors program is to challenge students to think, to analyze, to investigate, and to discover by stimulating them to achieve beyond the usual academic requirements.  Interested students must complete the application and forward all high school or college transcripts and letters of recommendation.  For a list of qualifications and admission criteria, contact your high school guidance counselor.  For more information, call 545-3359.

Amy M. Lach

Amy M. Lach, age 36, of Mulberry Grove, passed away Saturday, April 21 at her home.  Memorial services will be Tuesday, at 7:00 p.m., at the First Christian Church in Greenville.  Friends may call Tuesday, from 5:00 p.m. until service time at the church.  Burial will be at a later date in Prairie Baptist Cemetery in rural Ramsey.  Memorials are suggested to Amy Lach’s Children’s Education Fund.  Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia is in charge of arrangements.

Beatrice A. “Bea” Grapperhaus

Beatrice A. “Bea” Grapperhaus, age 88, of Breese, passed away Monday, April 23 at Carlyle Health Care Center.  A Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese.  Burial will be in St. Dominic – St. Augustine Cemetery.  Friends may call Wednesday, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. at the Moss Funeral Home in Breese.  Memorials are suggested to St. Dominic Catholic Church, Friends of St. Joseph’s Hospital, or the charity of the donor’s choice.

Irene B. Zurilene, age 94, of Trenton, passed away Monday, April 23 at Cedar Ridge Nursing Home in Lebanon.  A Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Church in Trenton.  Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery.  Friends may call Wednesday, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, from 8:00 - 9:45 a.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Trenton.  Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
