Tuesday was the tenth anniversary of the afternoon storm that produced six tornadoes just outside Greenville.  According to the National Weather Service, on May 1, 2002, a strong thunderstorm complex moved through central Bond County, producing 1 ¾ inch hail and strong winds.  This storm uprooted trees and damaged more than thirty five structures.  Large branches were tossed as much as 50 to 75 yards and pieces of grain elevators were thrown more than 70 yards.  Several witnesses reported seeing four tornadoes on the ground at the same time.  Thankfully, there was only one minor injury as a result of this storm.
