GREENVILLE FIREFIGHTERS PAGED TO REPORT OF BRUSH FIRE ALONG INTERSTATE 70

Greenville Firefighters were dispatched at 5:47 Friday morning to a report of a brush fire along the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 at the 42 mile marker.  According to the fire report, when firefighters arrived, they found a truck driver had stopped and put out the fire.  Firefighters were on the scene just a few minutes.


FIRST ANNUAL DO-IT-YOURSELF STREET FAIR

The first annual Do-It-Yourself Street Fair is Saturday, June 16, from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on the courthouse lawn in conjunction with the Greenville Graffiti Car Show.  If you are a do-it-yourselfer with an invention or something you have created from recycled materials you would like to display, come to the Greenville square from 7:30 – 8:00 a.m.  There is no cost to participate.  You just have to pass the lenient criteria for entry.  For more information, email martharad@yahoo.com.

LOOSE DOGS STILL A PROBLEM FOR MULBERRY GROVE VILLAGE BOARD

At their recent meeting, Mulberry Grove Village board members discussed the ongoing problem of dogs running loose inside the village and owners having more dogs than allowed by village ordinance.  Village Police Officer Robert Sutton will follow up. 
The village’s old tractor will be advertised for sale.  Interested persons may view the tractor at a specified time and place.  Contact the village office for more information.
The July meeting date was changed from July 2 to July 9, at 7:00 p.m., to accommodate board member’s schedules.


BAGS NO LONGER ALLOWED AT BOND COUNTY COURTHOUSE

Due to security concerns and recent security issues in other jurisdictions, the Bond County Courthouse Security Officers will no longer be allowing purses, bags, or backpacks into the courthouse.  These items are to be left in your car.  If a bag is brought into the courthouse, the owner will be asked to return it to the vehicle and will not be allowed to leave it at the checkpoint.  Attorneys conducting business with the courthouse, jury members, and mothers carrying diaper bags for their children are except from this policy.

COED TENNIS CAMP HELD AT KASKASKIA COLLEGE

A coed tennis camp is scheduled at Kaskaskia College Monday, June 11-Friday, June 15, from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m.  The camp is for students entering kindergarten through sixth grade and the cost is $30.00, which includes a t-shirt.  Pre-registration is required.  For more information or to register, call Coach Kim Rahar at 545-3372.


KASKASKIA COLLEGE BOARD OF TRUSTEES SPECIAL MEETING

The Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees scheduled a special meeting for Monday, June 11 to interview candidates for the trustee vacancy.  The meeting is at 5:30 p.m. in the Wedekemper Board Room.

Charles Robert “Chop” Bennett

Charles Robert “Chop” Bennett, age 85, of Keyesport, passed away Tuesday, June 5, at his home.  A public celebration of life will be Saturday, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m., at the “Keyes” in Keyesport.  The Zieren Day Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Larry L. Shenkel

Larry L. Shenkel, age 72, of rural Pocahontas, passed away Thursday, June 7, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.  Funeral services will be Monday, at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Pocahontas.  Burial will be in Robinson Cemetery.  Friends may call Sunday, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home.  Memorials are suggested to the St. Nicholas Catholic Church, the Bond County Senior Citizen’s Center, or to the American Heart Association.

Robert W. Dugan, Jr.

Robert W. Dugan, Jr., age 88, of Alhambra, passed away Friday, June 8 at Alhambra Care Center.  Funeral arrangements for 88 year-old Robert W. Dugan, Jr. are pending at the Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland.
