MULBERRY GROVE FIRE DISTRICT ANNEXATION HEARING

There was a hearing Friday at the Bond County Courthouse concerning annexation of property in Fayette County into the Mulberry Grove Fire District.  Mulberry Grove Fire Chief Dwight Volkmar said about twenty people attended the hearing, most of them from the affected Fayette County property.  Many of those in attendance spoke positively about the annexation of property into the Mulberry Grove Fire Protection District as there is currently no fire district in Fayette County.  The hearing is to have the question of annexation placed on the November ballot and Dwight said he anticipates a ruling soon, maybe in the next few days.


POWER OUTAGE IN GREENVILLE AFFECTED NEAR 900 CUSTOMERS

Electric power was off in portions of Greenville Monday morning, including many local business and city hall.  According to Ameren IP spokesman Leigh Morris, all power was restored by 10:30 a.m. and the cause of the outage is not known.  Leigh said there is no evidence of equipment malfunction or damage to the line.

DRIVER EJECTED ON ROUTE 16 CRASH IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY

The driver was ejected in a one vehicle crash on Route 16 near Crest Circle in Montgomery County just after 2:00 p.m. Monday.  According to the Illinois State Police, Tonya Storm, age 30, of Hillsboro, was westbound on Route 16 when there was a distraction in the car and she allegedly turned around to the rear seat and lost control of the car. The car left the roadway to the right.  ISP says Storm then over corrected to the left and struck a ditch.  The car flipped multiple times and Storm was ejected.  Storm was ARCHed to Memorial Hospital in Springfield with serious injuries.  Two passengers, Joshua Storm, age 32, and a 2 year-old were both taken to Hillsboro Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  Tonya Storm was cited for allegedly not wearing a seat belt.

KASKASKIA COLLEGE TO HOST FALL 2012 REGISTRATION DAY

Kaskaskia College is hosting a special fall 2012 registration day at the main campus Saturday, August 11, from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.  Assistance will be available in the areas of advisement, admissions & registration, placement testing, financial aid, the library, TRIO, and the bookstore.  35 percent of the fall tuition is required at registration.  Assistance in completing the Free Application For Student Aid (FAFSA) will be available.  For more information, call the registration office at 545-3040.

C-SECTION SURGERY SUITE AT FAMILY BIRTH CENTER

Greenville Regional Hospital recently unveiled a surgery suite specifically designated for Cesarean section operations.  The C-section room is immediately adjacent to the hospital’s Family Birth Center and is always set up for emergencies.  OB Specialist Dawn McDaid said, “One of the tremendous benefits of having a dedicated Cesarean Room is that mothers now get to recover from their surgery directly in the Family Birth Center.  This allows mothers to interact with their newborns sooner."  For more information about the Family Birth Center, call 664-9830.
