BOATING ACCIDENT ON GLENN SHOAL LAKE CLAIMS ONE LIFE

Illinois State Police Master Sergeant Bob Price from district 18 was tragically killed in a boating accident at Glenn Shoals Lake Sunday night, according to Illinois State Police Director Hiram Grau.  After a three-hour search, Price's body was recovered Sunday night.  According to Montgomery County Coroner Rick Broaddus, a lake resident called 911 at 4:45 p.m., Sunday, September 30 and reported a man in the water who he could see from his house.  Price apparently had fallen out of a fishing boat near Irving Cove, north of Butler Lane.  The Hillsboro Fire Department dive team arrived on the scene about 5:00 p.m. and the Litchfield Fire Department dive team was called to the station and put on stand-by.  Coroner Rick Broaddus pronounced Price dead at 7:52 p.m.  Master Sergeant Price was a 17 year veteran of the Illinois State Police starting his career in District 18.  He served with the Executive Protection Unit, Medicaid Fraud Control Bureau, and District 11 Patrol.  His last assignment was Administrative Master Sergeant for District 18 in Litchfield, Illinois.


UPCOMING PRACTICE EVACUATION AT MULBERRY GROVE SCHOOLS

As part of National Fire Prevention Week, Wednesday, October 10, at approximately 1:00 p.m., there will be a school-wide practice evacuation at Mulberry Grove Schools.  Superintendent Mike Gauch said the Mulberry Grove Fire Protection District contacted the school and suggested the evacuation drill.  A practice evacuation will help prepare for any type of situation in which students need to be evacuated.  Gauch said in these types of situations, it is best to be proactive as opposed to reactive.  The drill will include all students, grades K-12.  For more information, contact the school.


SIRENS TO BE TESTED TUESDAY MORNING


Don’t be alarmed when the sirens go off this morning.  According to 911 Coordinator Alan Davis, the tornado sirens will be tested this morning at 10:00.  It is only a test. 


RANDY REITZ ON ABSENTEE AND EARLY VOTING

Election Day is just around the corner.  Bond County Clerk Randy Reitz said there is more than one option for voting in the November election.  Individuals may apply for absentee voting.  This is for people who will be away from their home on election day.  A ballot which will be sent to them.  Early voting is another popular voting option.  Folks are able to choose the date and time they wish to vote.  Anyone may vote early, October 22 - November 3.  For more information, call the County Clerk's office at 664-0449.

Upcoming Bond County Health Department flu clinics are at the New Douglas Community Center Tuesday, October 9, from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.  A kids walk-in clinic is Wednesday, October 10, from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the health department.  You may get flu shots Thursday, October 11, from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Watson’s Drug Store, and Friday, October 12, at the Sorento Village Community Building from 1:00 – 1:30 p.m.  For more information, call the health department at 664-1442.

Evelyn I. Stein, age 90, of Pierron, passed away Saturday, September 29 at her residence. A memorial service will be Wednesday, at 8:00 p.m. at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. A private burial will be at a later date. Friends may call Wednesday, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Highland Animal Shelter.

Georgia M. Murphy

Georgia M. Murphy, age 89, of Pierron, passed away Saturday, September 29, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland.  Funeral services for 89 year-old Georgia M. Murphy will be Wednesday, at 10:00 a.m., at the Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland.  Burial will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Estates Cemetery in Glen Carbon.  Friends may call Tuesday, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, from 8:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to Highland Area Christian Service Ministry.
