HISTORICAL SOCIETY HOSTS AMELIA EARHART PROGRAM

The Bond County Historical Society will host a program on Amelia Earhart, by local impersonator Barbara Kay, at the Bradford Community Building Friday, October 26.  John Coleman said Barbara Kay is a local historian and teacher at Highland High School. She brings a lot of fun to her historical performances by dressing in character and looking a lot like the character she is portraying.  Coleman said the Historical Society chose Amelia Earhart because she has been in the news lately.  Her disappearance in the 1930's is one of the great mysteries of all time and this summer there was a new effort to find where her plane went down in the Pacific. The program starts at 7:00 p.m. and refreshments with a dessert buffet will be served.  Tickets are $8.00 per person and may be purchased at the door.

FRAUDULENT CHECK SCAM WARNING

Clinton County State’s Attorney John Hudspeth warns of a fraudulent check scam.  A local resident reported receiving a check in the mail written on a business account at a bank in Vincennes, Indiana.  The recipient was to deposit the check and wire money to an address in Texas.  Fortunately, the person went to the authorities instead of following the directions.  The business and bank in Indiana had no involvement in sending the check and are also victims.  Hudspeth said, “Continue to be careful of you receive such documents in the mail.  If something looks too good to be true, it probably isn't true.”
