STATE TROOPER HIT BY CAR

Tuesday, at 11:36 a.m., an Illinois State Trooper was taken to St. Louis University Hospital after his motorcycle was rear ended on the west side of Illinois Route 4 in Lebanon. The patrol cycle was driven by a five-year veteran Trooper assigned to District 11 in Collinsville. According to the Illinois State Police report, a dump truck had been traveling north on Illinois Route 4 ahead of the motorcycle. The dump truck pulled into the southbound lane and stopped north of East Wesley Street in Lebanon. The truck then attempted to back into a private drive on the west side of Route 4. The patrol cycle came to a stop in the northbound lane just south of the dump truck.  State police say Jonathon Porter, age 24, of St. Louis, driving a Toyota Corolla, was unable to stop and rear-ended the ISP motorcycle. Porter was charged with alleged failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and operation of a motor vehicle with no valid registration. The Trooper was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and has been released from the hospital.
