GENERAL ELECTION 2012

In addition to the Presidential election, there are several other contested races on the Bond County ballot.  Democrat David M. Gill, Republican Rodney Davis, and Independent candidate John Hartman are all running for U.S. Representative in the 13th district.  In the 15th district, Republican John M. Shimkus is running against Democrat Angela Michael for U.S. Representative.  Danny L. Stover, a Democrat, is running against Republican Kyle McCarter for State Senator in the 54th district.  Republican John Cavaletto is running unopposed for the Representative ticket in the 107th district. 

Looking to the Bond County Board candidates, Democrat Frank Lucco is running unopposed in District 1.  Gerald Lee “Spanky” McCray Sr., a Democrat, is running against Republican Barb Smith in District 2.  Republican Tom Devore will run against Democrat Eldon Young in District 3.  Looking to District 4, Democrat Wes Pourchot will take on Republican Jack Langel.  Finally, current board Chairman, Republican Brock Willeford, will run against Howard N. Elmore, Democrat, in District 5. 

Democrat Stacey Sidwell is running against Republican Rex Catron for Bond County Circuit Clerk.  In the Coroner race, Republican John Donnell is running against Democrat Anthony R. “Tony” Brooks.  For more information about the election and polling locations, contact the Bond County Clerk’s office at 664-0449.


COMETS MOVE ON TO ROUND 3 OF FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS

The Greenville Comets won their Round 2 playoff game against Vienna 42-2.  The Comets will move on to Round 3 of the playoffs next weekend, where they will be taking on the Carterville Lions in Carterville.  Stay tuned to WGEL for additional game time information and for full, live, game-day coverage.

E-BOOKS SURVEY

A survey was recently sent out to citizens of Greenville along with their water bill.  We spoke with Mike Westbrooks at the Greenville Public Library about the survey.
The survey is optional; individuals can turn it in with their water bill, to the Municipal Building, or to the Library.  If you did not receive a survey, you can obtain one at the library.  The information from the survey will be evaluated by the Greenville Library Board of Directors and help determine the interest of the community in adding an E-books service to the library.  For more information, call the library at 664-3115.

GREENVILLE LAKE COMMITTEE TO MEET

The Greenville Lake Committee is scheduled to meet Monday, November 5, at 7:00 p.m., at the municipal building.  The agenda includes a review of the 2012 season and stocking the lake with fish.

GREENVILLE CHAMBER BUSINESS AFTER HOURS ENERTECH

A huge crowd gathered at the corporate headquarters of Enertech in Greenville Thursday night for the November Greenville Chamber of Commerce Businesses After Hours event.  We talked to Enertech Owner Steve Smith.
Enertech is a manufacturer and distributer of Geo Comfort Geo thermal heating and cooling systems throughout the U.S. , Canada,  Europe, and the Caribbean.  They are also talking with individuals in the Ukraine about expanding there as well.  There are several hurdles to overcome when working internationally; language, different electric systems, and more.  Steve said that they did not expect to be so successful, but that it has been a great.

VETERANS TO RECEIVE FREE LEGAL APPOINTMENTS

The Third Judicial Circuit Pro Bono Committee and the lawyers of the Madison County Bar Association are providing two days of free legal appointments to Madison and Bond County Veterans to honor the veterans for their service.  Appointments will be Thursday, November 8 and Tuesday, November 13 in the Legal Advice Conference Center in the Law Library of the Madison County Courthouse in Edwardsville.  Appointments are available each day from 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.  Veterans should call Jaime, at 296-4772, to schedule an appointment.

Hattye E. Siebert

Hattye E. Siebert, age 91, of Lubbock, Texas, formerly of Mulberry Grove, passed away Friday, November 2 in Lubbock, Texas.  Funeral services will be Thursday, at 11:00 a.m., at Young Funeral Home in Greenville.  Friends may call Wednesday, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Florence S. “Flossie” Rickhoff-Granda

Florence S. “Flossie” Rickhoff-Granda, age 72, of Bartelso, passed away Friday, November 2 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. A funeral Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Cecilia Church. Burial will be in St. Cecilia Cemetery. Friends may call Monday, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Moss Funeral Home in Germantown. Memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice.

Charles J. Bandy

Charles J. Bandy, age 85, of Greenville, passed away Sunday, November 4 at Greenville Regional Hospital.  Funeral arrangements for 85 year-old Charles J. Bandy are incomplete at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville.
