VETERANS DAY CEREMONY SUNDAY ON GREENVILLE SQUARE

This Sunday is Veterans Day and there will be a ceremony on the Greenville Square.  Tony Koonce said this will be the 15th annual Veterans Day ceremony on the square.  Tony told WGEL they added 13 new bricks this year and the total is now more than 1000 total bricks in the Veterans Memorial.  They will be unveiling the new locator table making it easier for people to find their bricks when they visit the memorial.  In the case of inclement or cold weather, the ceremony will be in the First United Methodist Church on Second Street. Since Veterans Day is on Sunday this year, the ceremony begins at 2:00 p.m. to allow for church attendance.

GENERAL ELECTION GOES SMOOTHLY IN BOND COUNTY

Tuesday’s election was the result of months of preparation and planning.  Bond County Clerk Randy Reitz said they worked hard to make sure everything was working properly at the polling locations throughout the area.  Election judges and volunteers aided in making sure everything went smoothly.  During the primary election earlier this year, some of the ballots were 1/32nd of an inch too wide.  These are the types of glitches Randy and his team must be ready to deal with.  Randy said everything went smoothly in Tuesday’s election.  If you have any questions, or if you would like information about being an election judge, call the County Clerk’s office at 664-0449.

COMETS’ REID RINELLA IN IHSA CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP

Greenville High School Junior Reid Rinella finished 61st of 210 contestants in the IHSA 1A Cross Country Championships in Peoria Saturday, November 3.  Greenville High School Athletic Director Joe Alstat said Rinella finished the 3-mile course in 16 minutes and 1 second, a new personal best time for him.  Rinella’s 61st place in the large field improves on his 84th place finish last year at the state championship.

 

HUNTERS HAVE OBLIGATION TO PRACTICE ETHICS

As the hunting season moves into full swing in November, hunters are reminded of their obligation to practice hunting ethics.  Trespassing leads the list of illegal and unethical practices.  Hunters must obtain permission from the landowner before entering his land to hunt.  While hunting on public land, it is unlawful to shoot an animal on private property without permission.  Illinois law does not grant the right of trespass for the purpose of retrieving wounded or crippled wildlife.  It is also illegal to dispose of animal carcasses in creeks, along roadsides, and on public lands.  Remember, your conduct while hunting may influence the landowners’ decision to let you or other sportsmen hunt in the future.  Be legal and ethical at all times.  For more information, call 594-2484.

FAYETTE COUNTY WILL NOT JOIN MULBERRY GROVE FIRE DISTRICT

On the ballot Tuesday in Fayette County, citizens voted against joining the Mulberry Grove Fire Protection District.  The expansion proposal was the result of requests by rural persons whose insurance rates were increasing because they do not legally have fire protection.  The measure was defeated 214 to 181 votes.
