FIREPLACE CAUSES HOUSE FIRE

Greenville Firefighters responded Tuesday, at 6:16 p.m., to a report of a house fire at a residence on Butternut Street.  According to the fire report, a leak in a living room fireplace chimney caught the house on fire.  Firefighters put out the fire and damage is estimated at $15,000.00.  There was smoke damage to the home but fire damage was restricted to one room.  No injuries were reported and fire department personnel were on the scene a little more than an hour.

CHRISTMAS MORNING ACCIDENT SENDS ONE TO HOSPITAL

A Bond County Deputy and Bond County EMS responded Tuesday, at 10:00 p.m., to the scene of a single-car accident on Clinton Street in Keyesport.  According to the accident report, Linda D. Kious, age 68, of Keyesport, was westbound on Clinton Street when her Chevrolet Cavalier ran off the right shoulder and into the ditch.  The car traveled down the ditch and hit a concrete culvert.  Bond County EMS took Kious to Greenville Regional Hospital for treatment.


CAR DEER ACCIDENT NEAR HIGHLAND SENDS ONE TO HOSPITAL

A car/deer accident near Highland sent one person to the hospital.  According to Highland Police, Bryn Clemens, age 19, of Effingham, was southbound of Rt. 160 north of Old Trenton Road when she struck a deer.  Highland EMS took Clemens to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland for treatment.

MACOUPIN COUNTY CORONER INVESTIGATES DEATH

Macoupin County Coroner Brad Targhetta responded Monday, December 17, to the Carlinville Area Hospital Emergency Room, to investigate the death of William Curt Smith.  Smith was incarcerated in the Macoupin County Jail December 16.  Illinois State Police Scene Technicians and Detectives are investigating the incident.  An autopsy was performed Monday, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield and autopsy results and toxicology samples are pending.  There will be a coroner’s inquest following the investigation.


ROADSIDE SAFETY CHECKS IN MADISON AND ST. CLAIR COUNTIES

According to District 11 Commander Captain Brad Parsons, Illinois State Police Officers may conduct roadside safety checks in Madison and St. Clair Counties during January.  Roadside safety checks are effective tools for generating voluntary compliance with traffic laws by the motoring public.  They help keep our roads safer by removing dangerous DUI offenders.  Officers will also be watchful for drivers operating vehicles in an unsafe manner, driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license, and transporting open alcoholic beverages.

Fremond E. Kunz, Sr.

Fremond E. Kunz, Sr., age 91, of Highland, passed away Sunday, December 23 at Faith Countryside Homes in Highland. Funeral services will be Saturday, at 11:00 a.m. at the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland. Burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Friends may call Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Hospital Foundation.

Pauline Voelcker

Pauline Voelcker, age 95, of Greenville, formerly of Cerro Gordo, IL, passed away Sunday, December 23 at Helia Healthcare. Funeral services will be Friday, at 11:00 a.m. at the Cerro Gordo Methodist Church. Burial will be in Cerro Gordo Cemetery. Friends may call Friday, from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Cerro Gordo Women’s Club, the Cerro Gordo Alumni Scholarship, or the Cerro Gordo United Methodist Church.
