GREENVILLE REGIONAL HOSPITAL WELCOMES FIRST BABY FOR 2013

Greenville Regional Hospital welcomed the first baby born in their Family Birth Center in 2013 Friday, January 4.  Elysia Michael Lawson was born at 12:55 a.m. to proud parents Samantha Alexander and Justin Lawson, of Highland.  As per tradition, Elysia was welcomed with a variety of gifts from the hospital and local businesses for him and his family. 

ACCIDENT WITH INJURIES ON RT. 40

A Bond County Deputy, Bond County EMS, and Greenville Firefighters responded Tuesday, January 8, at 11:46 p.m., to the scene of a single-vehicle accident on Rt. 40.  According to the accident report, Melissa C. Gum, age 27, of Greenville, was eastbound on Rt. 40 at Wagon Wheel Road, in a Dodge Ram, when she swerved to miss a deer.  Her vehicle ran off the right side of the road and overturned after striking a fence.  Bond County EMS took Gum to Greenville Regional Hospital for treatment.

EXTENDED HOURS FOR KASKASKIA COLLEGE STUDENT SERVICES

The Kaskaskia College Student Services Division is having extended hours of service on the main campus from January 2 – 28 to assist students registering for spring 2013 classes.  Offices will be open Monday through Thursday, from 7:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. and Friday, from 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.  For more information, call 545-3000.

DECEMBER 2012 PRECIPITATION TOTALS FOR GREENVILLE

The average rainfall in December 2012 in Greenville was 2.35 inches, almost an inch less than the 3.2 inch average for the past 45 years.  Greenville got 3.08 inches of snow in December which is also less than the 45 year average of 4.324 inches.  The most rain in December fell in 1982 when Greenville received 12.1 inches and the most snow was 28 inches in 1973.  Greenville Waste Water Treatment Plant statistics show Greenville received 42.06 inches of rain in 2012 and 9.5 inches of snow.

Bonnie L. Mayberry

Bonnie L. Mayberry, age 84, of Pocahontas, passed away Sunday, January 6 at Greenville Regional Hospital.  Funeral services will be Wednesday, at 11:00 a.m., at the Meridith Funeral Home in Pocahontas.  Burial will be in Brown Cemetery in Old Ripley.  Friends may call Wednesday, from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. 

Eliza M. “May” Klaus

Eliza M. “May” Klaus, age 96, of Highland, passed away Tuesday, January 8 at Faith Countryside Homes / Faith Care Center in Highland.  Funeral services will be Saturday, at 10:00 a.m., at the Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland.  Burial will be in Highland City Cemetery.  Friends may call Friday, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, from 8:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to Faith Countryside Apartments.

Irwin C. Rayphole    

Irwin C. Rayphole, age 77, of Greenville, passed away Monday, January 7 at his home.  Funeral services will be Friday, at 10:00 a.m., at Meridith Funeral Home in Pocahontas.  Burial will be in Greene Cemetery in Millersburg.  Friends may call Thursday, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Friday, from 8:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to the family.

Kenneth L. O’Dell Sr.

Kenneth L. O’Dell Sr., age 62, of Carlyle, passed away Monday, January 7 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis.  Funeral services will be Saturday, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Carlyle.  Burial will be in McKendree Chapel Cemetery west of Keyesport with military honors.  Friends may call Friday, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Zieren Day Funeral Home and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church.  Memorials are suggested to his son Kenny’s education.

Lewis E. Frueh   

Lewis E. Frueh, age 84, of west of Greenville, passed away Tuesday, January 8 at Greenville Regional Hospital.  Funeral services will be Friday, at 10:00 a.m., at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville.  Burial will be in Brown Cemetery.  Friends may call Thursday, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Gilead Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Virginia Marti

Virginia Marti, age 91, of Greenville, passed away Tuesday, January 8 at her home.  Funeral services will be Friday, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Lawrence Catholic Church.  Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery.  Friends may call Thursday, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., at Young Funeral Home. There will be a prayer service at 6:30.  Memorials are suggested in the form of masses or to the American Diabetes Association.
